Do Democrats Still Favor Packing the Court and Ending the Fillibuster?

The Senate fluctuates depending on who has to defend the most seats.

I believe that if one party manages to win the House, Senate and White House they have earned the right to pass their agenda
If you look at the map the Democrats have a tough time. Manchin is done so WVA will have two senators now. Florida is now deep red. Same with Montana. Not sure the Democrats have a clear path anymore and if the GOP run a sane candidate in AZ they could take one of those seats. NV is very close too.

Don't count on that. The numbers flip in Dems favor in the next two election cycles.

There is indeed no reason to expect that history will not continue to repeat itself.

Far too many unable to learn the lessons of the past.

I'm not a Democrat but I've long supported ending the filibuster as it currently exists.

If you wish to filibuster something, rest up and put the work in.
A novel idea. If you are elected and sent to Washington, why not actually do the job and put the work in that voters sent you there to do?
Learn the legislation. Actually debate the issues. Get rid of unnecessary parliamentary procedure. Vote the legislation up or down....but don't pocket veto it
or round file it.

The political pendulum swings back and forth with no party ruling more than eight years

I say let Republicans have their way and be accountable for the results. They had it under Bush and resulted in an Obama landslide

In which states? You tell me.
A tough road for sure. But not an impossible one.

House and Presidency absolutely. Don’t see it in the Senate. I could be wrong and actually I do not want one party rule for more than 2 yrs. That being said after what the Democrats did they deserve some humble pie.

Especially with their lawfare.

Right now, Speaker of the House and Senate Majority Leader have too much power for a small majority.
Needs to be easier to bring bipartisan legislation to the floor

The Special Counsel is a thing. Has been for a long time now.
I suspect they'll find out it won't be as easy to implement their new just and righteous conservative society as they believe it will be. :)
And bear in mind, if the worm turns again in two or four years, what's done..can be undone.
You push electric cars, keep causing electricity prices to spike, shove the torture of limited water shower and spigot heads. Toilet, dishwasher and washing machine water limits, limited air conditioning and heating parts, and more of that, you will get crushed just on that. Repeal all of that crap or make it optional.

You didn’t answer me. Which states flip reps? Genuinely curious?
In todays political climate, you are correct
You don’t know what the political climate will be in four or eight years
Just remember the political retribution after Trumps first term

I repeatedly stated that Harris never asked for my vote. People dismissed it. But it wasn’t Harris alone. The Democratic Party never asked or wanted my vote. Disenfranchised millions of voters like myself. And voila red wave 2024. We ll see what the GOP does but they DID ask for my vote

Elon Musk builds and sells electric cars. Where is your contempt for him? Oh wait....the guy who tanked Twitter is going tell the rest of us about how government should operate. You do know that advances in technology make appliances more energy efficient and environmentally friendly..right? And those advances are brought on by regs that are implemented in both Republican and Democrat governments...right??? And I don't see anyone limiting A/C and heating...we're gonna need it for the wild shifts in temperature that have arrived to collect the check..:)

Schumer and the Democrats tried to kill the filibuster in 2022 when they had 50 votes – the vice president could have broken the tie – but Senators Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema refused to toe the Democratic party line. They eventually became Independents.

. . .

"To my Republican colleagues, I offer a word of caution in good faith," Schumer said.

"Take care not to misread the will of the people, and do not abandon the need for bipartisanship. After winning an election, the temptation may be to go to the extreme. We’ve seen that happen over the decades, and it has consistently backfired on the party in power."

"So, instead of going to the extremes, I remind my colleagues that this body is most effective when it’s bipartisan. If we want the next four years in the Senate to be as productive as the last four, the only way that will happen is through bipartisan cooperation."

Schumer’s about face wasn’t lost on Byron York, chief political correspondent for the Washington Examiner and a Fox News contributor.

What does Schumer mean by "going to extremes?" Surely, he cannot mean ending the fillibuster and packing the court. How could it only be "extreme" if Republicans do it?

No. He must mean something else. He still supports ending the fillibuster and packing the court, I'm sure.

But what else could he mean?

1. Chuck Schumer is a 2-faced dick. But so are most of the other politicians.

2. I have no doubt that sooner or later, one party or the other will abolish the filibuster. The democrats almost did in 2021 and they will try again if the GOP doesn't do it 1st. I haven't that from any repubs yet, but I think it's only a matter of time. Will they do it? I don't think so, I'd like to think there aren't enough moderate repubs who won't support that effort much as Sinema and Manchin a few years back.

3. As much as most people do not like gridlock and the paralysis that grips Congress, I believe that deviating from the current req't to have 60 votes to stop debate on a given legislation should not be changed. At all. Because that happens, no matter what form it takes eventually they'll end up with a pure 50+1 majority vote on everything and IMHO that ain't good. Cuz it means the party in power can do almost anything to keep themselves in power, and the 50-1 minority will have no say at all. There is a thing called the tyranny of the majority that can lead to a permanent one-party gov't that ends up in a totalitarian state or close to it. Some people say there's no way that can happen here; I kinda think other people who ended up in a totalitarian state probably thought that too.

Has the fillibuster been used for good?

I know that's objective, but it was used to fight Civil Rights legislation, which most people agree was not a good use of that tool.

Any legislation it ever stopped that we now realized needed to be stopped?

First blush?..Ohio, Iowa, and this might be a longshot, but I want to see that cud chewing, useless hick in LA out....he's an embarrassment.
I'll have to consider the rest.
Agreed

Long shots. Until your party asks for the male vote you won’t get it and right now it doesn’t look like it’s asking for it? 🤷‍♂️

I mean you could lose NJ. NV.
