Did Zelensky accidentally deputize all of his private citizens?

This is a war crimes question. If, in effect the Ukrainian citizens are taking up arms are they still covered by conventional War Rules?

Well your use of the word "deputize" is only appropriate symbolically. He didnt actually swear them in or anything. Can a civilian be charged with a war crime? You would think so, but maybe not. Im not a lawyer, so who knows? Maybe they just get punished the way you would normal punish someone who tortures or whatever.

Desperate times etc. Islamic fundamentalists have been killing and pillaging for decades but nobody talks about war crimes. Bill Clinton used NATO to attack a defenseless country when he was caught with his pants down. Nobody seemed concerned about so-called "dazy cutter" bombs that effectively decapitated every living thing in a thirty meter span and nobody talked about war crimes when a embassy building was bombed because the pilots relied on old maps.

If a civilian uses lethal force against a soldier and the soldier successfully defends himself is he committing a War crime?

What war crime could you possible inflict on the invading russians?

Yes he did, if they are not in uniform (just a Volksstrum-style armband will do) then they are considered partisans and the rules of warfare do not apply to them.....He actually did that near a week ago when he banned males fro 18-65 leaving the country.
So.... A civilian takes a shot at a soldier and wounds him...the soldier fires back and kills the civilian....realizes he's a civilian then quickly ties a band on his arm to cover his ass.....then what?

Russia was guilty of war crimes the first day they invaded ! civilians were being killed before Zelensky asked civilians to defend their homelands .

Negative....The former civilian, still in civilian garb that is now a member of the defending force, has to have some kind of ID that shows said membership or they can be summarily executed as gorilla fighters.

In our Civil War the Yankees called them Bushwhackers. One of my ancestors was hung for engaging in such actives.

Here, maybe a pics will help.

no Ukrianian is going to be charged with a war crime for defending themselves from the “reset” russian policies

I think you're reading me backwards.... If a Russian soldier successfully defends himself against an attack by a civilian is he committing a war crime? If the soldier fires back and kills the civilian who was not in a uniform and has no armband on him is that considered to be a war crime?
Or did the citizen enlist himself by attacking an enemy soldier?

If they are caught out of uniform by Russian forces, then they could be executed on the spot. Of course, the Russians could waste them and call it collateral damage. More power to them if they want to fight tooth and nail for every bloody inch of their lands. However, if the average citizen starts taking potshots at an infantry squad, heaven help them.

Anyone being attacked has a moral and legal right to defend themselves regardless of uniform.

There Are No Non-Combatants in a Combat Zone

The Geneva Convention was written by Chickenhawks, pacifists, and snobs in order to emasculate fighting men. Practicing human sacrifice, the sheltered ruling classes needed to create war vets who had all the fight taken out of them by putting them in a straitjacket with regards to punishing the fake civilians who were murdering them. Despite their so-far successful psychological warfare against the troops, someday the elitists and their sons will regret that they had trained unprivileged young men to kill.

Every American Body Bag Should Be Stamped R.O.E.

The only war criminals are those who make Rules of Engagement.
