That is what is strange about media mob tactics to quash Trump's free speech in what was falsley presented as a defense of free speech. Clearly the new definition of free speech is that speech that does not conform to the status quo is dangerous to the status quo and so should not be free.

In my 1960's comparative Government class it was said that unpopular speech must be allowed because it acts as a safety valve for one side of an argument or another. Trump criticized the press that already had pitiful trust ratings so it raised a lynch mob not to protect free speech but to protect itself.

When one side loses to another in a free society that trust is essential for the losers to accept the loss by trusting that the system worked. When trust is gone the system fails as it always has in closed societies. We may be headed there now.
