Because it destroys freedom and undermines democracy.

When a government has the power to dictate to society, the only way to live in the society you want, is to control the government. If you don't, the "other side" will force their social preferences on you. So, people do what they have to (lie, cheat, steal - anything) to ensure their bastards control things. That's where we're at now.

I don't think government should work that way. Instead, government should protect our freedom to form the kind of society we want, collaboratively and voluntarily.

I also think a strict reading of the Constitution resolves the problem, at least at the federal level. But it could use an update for clarity. Maybe just the original text, followed by, "No, seriously. We really mean it!".

There is NO democracy on this planet. Just because there is a constitution, laws and one can vote every 4 years - doesn't behold a factual democracy.
Never has, since - $$$ and therefore influence and connections can break/disregard any law. It's a natural-born human trait, that can be summarized under the term "egoistic" or "selfish".

The strategy of the US in situations like this has been the same since the advent of bombing.



They run out of military targets and have a belief that if they bomb the civilian population into the stone age, they will give up the will to resist.

But it didn't work during WWII when most Germans and Japanese toward the end of the war overwhelmingly did not support what their governments were doing. However, when their opponents treated them this way, it united and galvanized the population.
