The US has never been energy independent. We use 20 million bpd per day and produce 13 million bpd. We import 7-9 million bpd mostly from Canada and Mexico.

The US produces zero barrels a day...

Companies some of them who are traded on US Stock Market produce Oil in the US and sell it to the highest bidder. US taxpayer has no hold on that oil, it goes to anyone who gives them the best money.

US has a total dependence (100%) of it's Oil Energy from these companies...

So energy independence is a complete myth.
