Actually, his botched circumcision (a practice of genital mutilation non here seem to have a problem with) and his subsequent attempts to correct his mistake with gender reassignment surgery and hormone treatments shows how pervasive our notions of identity are. It's why trying to convince genuine trans patients to accept what their minds are telling them is wrong is not something most medical practitioners take serious as a viable treatment.
