I would go after employers who knowingly hire illegals. I'd throw them in jail, and fine them heavily.

In a sanctuary city (State) if an illegal alien applies for work. you run their social security number, like everyone else - if it comes back bogus you are required to simply put that notification in their employment file.
You are not allowed to proceed any farther or deny them employment due to their immigration status.

Employers shouldn't be required to enforce immigration laws. However, employers are responsible for enforcing employment laws.
However (the 2nd), if we require employers to enforce employment laws, we HAVE to give them the tools to verify that the individual they are hiring is eligible to work in this country. Currently the I-9 isn't doing it.
