DeSantis Is Happy To Receive Emergency Aid That He Callously Voted To Deny Hurricane Sandy Victims

Once upon a time (2013 to be exact), a nasty little first-term Congressman named Ronald DeSantis decided he wanted to make a big, big statement in order to ingratiate himself with a group of fellow conservatives that called themselves the “Tea Party.“ In a gesture that foreshadowed what would later become his trademark “LOL, let’s own the Libs” strategy, and timely occurring the day after he was sworn into office, DeSantis voted to deny billions in relief to New York and New Jersey residents whose lives had been ravaged by one of this nation’s most destructive national disasters, the “Superstorm” known as Hurricane Sandy.

As reported at the time by Steve Contorno, writing for the Tampa Bay Times:

That will make for an awkward moment in a Presidential debate won't it?
god damn you find new ways to doosh.

Hey look everyone, Skews is lying again...

How droll.

Sure they do…….If you listen to the Conservative media

Derp.

... More than $33 billion of the bill is nothing but pure pork. And of course there is no offset reduction in spending elsewhere to cover the cost of this bill.
The bill allocates billions to dozens of federal agencies, including the National Park Service, the Smithsonian, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Secret Service, the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Conservative propaganda

But it does highlight another Conservative ploy…..offsets
Unless you take money from someone else to pay for it, I will not approve.
That someone else always works out to be some program that helps the poor.

You think there will be “offsets” to pay for the support to Florida?

Facts are NOT propaganda. Why were so many billions included in that bill which had NOTHING to do with Sandy?

They don't get voted on without the House leadership (Republican) bringing them up for a vote.

LOL Just because the Ways and Means Committee voted it out doesn't mean it had overall Republica support. The bill passed the Committee and thus had to be brought to the floor for an up or down vote.

Of the 180 "no'' votes, 179 were Republican ...

There were no offsets for the $33 billion in the Sandy relief bill that had NOTHING to do with Sandy relief but was pork. That is what the article explains.

You really aren't very bright.

Ted Cruz is a scumbag.

omg. we agree on something.

I stating that the Republicans CORRECTLY voted against a pork filled attempt to rape the public treasury by the democrats using Hurricane Sandy as cover for their crime.

While those like you stand back and cheer.

I don't support anything not paid for.

Time proved him correct.....There was so much fraud going on it caused major shifts in how insurance companies provided coverage......Can't get or afford full coverage for you waterfront home.....Blame NY.

The wife worked for FEMA at the time and she said the fraud outpaced Katrina.....And that's saying something.
Oh shut up already. That fraud always happens.
