Dershowitz Takes Issue With Farmers' Market After Pierogi Denial

Our legal system relies on competent people as defense lawyers for even the most reprehensible criminals.

Dershowitz knew what he was doing and argued he should be able to go home during the day to continue doing what he was doing.

And here you are defending that.

This has nothing to do with public accomodations. You're playing a game to try and portray that whiney little schmuck as a victim.

I'm sure he will go full blow apoplectic on his show about it. It's his act.

It has everything to do with being a public accommodation. I was a farmers market open to the public.

The Farmers Market down here used to be the best breakfast in Town. By far. Not even close. Country Cooking. Southern Country Cooking. Grits, Ham Hocks, Pancakes, Country Ham, Grade AA eggs (oh yes, they are) Biscuits and Gravy, (the best in the known Universe) smoked sausage and -- Lots of all of it. Made from scratch. Every last bit

But the whole thing was Farmers. Actual, you know, REAL Farmers. The Wife and I would tool in there and sit down, it was loud, noisy, the smell of fried food was everywhere, the customers were a mix of working people including a lot of Black People. Jeans was dressed up.

But the food was great. They didn't serve one thing that came in a can. Nothing. None of it. And the morning drink was always Sweet Tea.

It's all gone now. New roads, new construction drove everything out and there's nowhere worth re-doing it. There's some new places but I fear they would be like what the OP is talking about.
Anyone from the South knows that ham hocks are not a breakfast food.

That's his ******* job as a defense attorney.

Do you have any idea how our legal system works you aspie ****?

PA laws should only apply to PA's. Anything else would result in a patchwork of sellers with too many requirements and unknown availability of point of sale products.

Once you allow the public to buy something point of sale on your property you should have to follow PA laws for those transactions.

I disagree.

I think the time for PA laws has passed. That private business should be able to refuse service for whatever reason they choose for point of sale products.

Let them suffer the consequences of the market. I could be on board with a requirement for them to post such policy in their establishment and on their website in advance.
  • Don't want to serve gays, that's fine.
  • Don't want to serve minorities, that's fine.
  • Don't want to serve women, that's fine.
  • Don't want to serve those carrying firearms, that's fine.
  • Don't want to serve those with MAGA hats/clothing, that's fine.
Let the market decide.

PA laws should only apply to government actors and venders acting under government contracts as a condition of the contract. Nor should the government purchase from vendors with discriminatory practices.

His job is not to expedite his illegal activities. By Dershowitz's accounts, activities he participated in.

I disagree. for point of sale items where the public has access to the business, PA laws make sense in order to create the level playing field, and not have to worry about figuring out who can buy what where.

How would it work if gas stations could pick and choose who to serve?

Then why hasn't Dershowitz been charged with a crime?

So now it's the governments job to create a level playing fields? What a progressive stance.

The vast, VAST majority of gas stations are corporate owned or franchises that as part of the franchise contract are required to adhere to corporate policies. That if they don't, they loose the franchise.

So I don't see a problem with gas stations as the head corporate entity is NOT going to want the boycotts, bad press, and social media blowback because a local franchise chooses not to serve a group (gays, blacks, jews, wetbacks, gun owners, MAGA's, etc.).

Government can regulate commerce. The key is to know where to draw the line.

Why make things more complicated by removing PA laws when all that really has to be done is limit them to actual public accommodations.

All pierogis are now custom pierogis.

Under New York Law...

All "point of sale" establishments would be included under "Retail Stores".

Removing Public Accommodation laws from private businesses, wouldn't be complicated.
