Defeat From the Jaws of Victory

They also solved world peace, cured cancer and harnessed fusion...

Awesome...

no, hon.. that's next term.

Do you foresee a Dem second term win?

There's a LOT that can and will happen in the next year and a half. Part of it depends on who the Republican'ts put up for 2012 prez... but I don't think it's unreasonable to see the 2012 executive and legislative make up matching what it is today.

2012 is wide open, anybody who thinks otherwise probably loved the Rudy-Hillary showdown in the '08 general.

I'm not sure what will happen in Congress. A lot depends on what happens, or doesn't, in the next 18 months or so.

i also don't underestimate the dems ability to screw it all up.

QFT....

It's not as though they haven't done it before.

So.. the dems got DADT repealed

got the START treaty confirmed

passed the 9/11 health bill

got unemployment insurance extended

all in exchange for giving a few millionaires a tax cut?

i wonder who's agenda mattered more?

but apparently the lame duck wasn't so lame.
It's not a surprise that you never asked yourself why, if these things were so important, they weren't passed prior to the election.

The 'lame duck' session is nothing but desparation.

whose desperation?

i'd say you guys look pretty bad. and it's a great image for the 2012 campaign that the only thing the repubs cared about was tax cuts for the rich.

if it was desperation, obama wouldn't be 55% today according to this poll?

Pollster.com - Political Surveys and Election Polls, Trends, Charts and Analysis

so come on... justify the repubs only caring about rich people.

Actually it's sad that the most important issue in America is the jobs, and barry did absolutely nothing about that in two years. The left can cheer all they want, but.....

a few points-

Jillian, did you read the actual poll? I think you should if you have not.

a number of reps voted for dadt and the start treaty...yes?

in your opinion the only thing driving reps is tax cuts for the rich? have you considered a sense of fairness? And if its so bad why did Obama come to them to make a deal?

Hey, dare you doubt their messiah? this is a "jobless recovery" you moron, and "shovel ready" was a fairytale...:lol::lol::lol::lol:

all day? you sure about that? or is it my a.m. and lunchtime and on and off after dinner?

today doesn't count. i'm home sick.
Call Obama, he's on a roll. I bet he could cure you with a little miracle.

:)

that would rock. he could get the nobel prize in medicine for curing the common cold.

no one will find a cure for the common cold.

common cold is a gold mine.

Great job by Obama getting the Party of No to agree to passing critical legislation.

2010 will go down as an historic legislative year
Indeed - Probably the most productive Congress in decades. If you review the entirety of the past two years, the amount of significant, impactful legislation passed is simply incredible.

Some here might disagree with the legislation itself, but you can't debate the effectiveness of the leadership in getting it into law.

...and we get to run against Obama, Pelosi, Reid and the Obama economy again in 2012! (If Obama allows election that is)

i did. and it wouldn't be my poll of choice. normally i'd rely on the RCP average or my guy nate silver at fivethirtyeight. well, ok, he's not really my guy but i love fivethirtyeight ;)

yes. they did. bless their hearts.

i do think for the party at large... the mitch mcconnell, ihopehefails crowd, tax cuts were all that mattered. i don't think there was anything fair about keeping those cuts in place when we need to pay our bills. you can't spend money you don't have and it was stupid for bush to enact those tax cuts during wartime and it's no less so now.

why do i think obama made the deal? two reasons... first, he wanted to get to the rest of his agenda... and that turned out rather well for him today. and second he wants to be re-elected and his approval ratings went up because everyone loves tax cuts.
