Bill goes to President Obama's desk for signature. House vote was 221-201. Senate vote was 55-43.

[Edited to reflect the actual final Senate vote.]

1. Return Defense spending to pre-9/11 levels. We are currently spending at levels not seen since WWII. More than during the Cold War when we actually faced an existential threat. Even a lot more than during Reagan's huge defense buildup.

2. Raise the Social Security and Medicare eligibility ages to 70 and index to 9 percent of the population going forward. We are living longer, we should be working longer.

3. Ban all tax expenditures. Over $1.2 trillion a year is being spent on them. That is nearly the same as our federal deficit.

With these three simple solutions, we would not only balance the budget, we would have several trillions of dollars of surplus cash over the next decade with which to not only pay down the debt, but to also lower everyone's tax rates.

See? That's how you offer solutions instead of just being a whiny bitch.

You gotta be Reaganesque in your approach. Instead of crying and moaning and attacking the other guy all the time, come up with three top priorities and hammer away at them in the public arena. Let the small shit work itself out.

Let it go. Just let the government spend whatever it wants to. This country cannot be fixed until it totally falls apart and the idiots in this country are forced to wake up by the pain of hunger and suffering.

That's when the idiots will suddenly go: "maybe we should have listened to the Tea Party instead of laughing at them".

Beohner caved. Tea Party furious. Blood in the water. Pass the popcorn.

I like it when people stand against stupidity no matter where it originates. Each congress critter represents people, not each other, and I want to see them ready to fight for those people they were elected to serve. If it means criticizing people in your party, so be it. Better than sheep who go with the flow because they don't have the backbone to speak up.

At this point, having any limits at all on the debt ceiling is just an illusion. Of course, having a constitution is pointless anymore.

I support all three of these ideas.

Your politicians are insane. Washington needs an enema. I've put up more information in the Canada forum but our budget was just laid out yesterday.

Quick summation? Real simple. Try desperately not to spend more than you take in. It's a freaking no brainer.

Total revenues: $276.3 billion

• Total expenses: $279.2 billion
• Shortfall/Deficit: $2.9 billion

AND there's more fiscal sanity at the link. Balanced budget coming.

Balancing the budget:

• Projected deficit 2014-15: $2.9 billion
• Projected surplus 2015-16: $6.4 billion
• Projected surplus 2016-17: $8.1 billion
• Projected surplus 2017-18: $8.1 billion
• Projected surplus 2018-19: $10.3 billion

Total projected surplus over next five years: $30 billion

I am not on board with number 2. Working full time for 45 years is long enough. Especially if you ain't sitting at a desk or attending lunch meetings all day. A person might still want to stay busy.....but what if he/she cannot?

The idea that raising the retirement age is an equitable and fair solution is funny.
