Another fart in the windstorm of revolution. Only the left would believe that attacking corruption, fraud and waste in the government would be an attack on civilization. David Brooks is a conservative and I'm Mario Lanza.

People wanted the "rich to pay their fair share".

What they got was support for using whichever rest room you want.

People wanted the banks brought down in size.

What they got was the right for male athletes to compete with the females.

I think you might be surprised at the level of support for those things among mainstream Dems. To some extent the party's agenda has been hijacked by a fringe element with good intentions.

The thing Brooks and his ilk ignore is Trump is giving his voters what they voted for.

Thank you. That's what I said the other day. There are very few conservatives here. Anyone associated with or supporting MAGA is not a conservative.

Right. As it turns out nearly all societies possess the tendency of being attracted to the message of a strongman in troubled times. What's most surprising is how many Americans are receptive to the siren call of this particular authoritarian.

The difference with this one is that, throughout history, there was either a real crisis or a general economic malaise that opened the door to the authoritarian to step in and take over. In a panic, the people turned to a monster.

In this case, much of the panic is the result of manipulation by a specific part of the "media". This is the result of an entirely separate informational ecosystem that has leveraged hyperbole and conspiracy theories to create the panic.

It's not that many don't support those things. If they had been done secondary to the other things, we wouldn't be where we are.

Those things were used as an election cycle cudgel by Repubs and do not represent high priorities for most Dems. To some degree the issues became more prominent because of the inhumane treatment of minorities by Repub controlled state governments.
