Before the Metchnikoff excerpts, it is mandatory to link with current developments @Kevin_McKernan so as to make the sex-determining/transgender connections to furin and synchronize SARS2 origin investigations. Therefore, the pertinent article is this one, posted on 8 Ap 2023:

So analysis of this protein shows an anti-mullerian hormone N-terminal region, 52-55 RSLR, which is a furin-like sequence. Within the same anti-mullerian domain, there is also a glycine zipper @ 84-88 GEIRG.
There are three more furin-like sites and three more glycine zippers in this protein from the bat, Rhinolophus, though other species of this genus show no publications for them.
This protein is, of course, linked to Worobey for coelacanth spumaretrovirus from the Mozambique Trench, where Wuhan bat lady, Zheng-li Shi attended the conference in that country.
Thus the HERV-W will link this anti-mullerian protein above, to NF-kappaB, and the cytokines of infection posted by McKernan on 8 Ap.
We will next precisely link a furin cleavage site to a mullerian-inhibiting protein to further strengthen this sex-determining trajectory:
