Correcting the liberal lies about the defense budget

The false liberal narrative is that we have some insane, unimaginable defense budget that is "bloated", "unnecessary", and "wasteful". They of course follow that false narrative up with "take that money and use it on public assistance". And that is why they are lying about the defense budget. Because the socialist "public assistance" agenda is unsustainable. It is bankrupting this nation and the left doesn't want to let go of it. So they create a false narrative about something (defense) which is not only exponentially more vital, but also the constitutional responsibility of the federal government.

The military has actually been forced under Barack Obama to scavenge museums for the airplane parts they need to keep their aircrafts flying. That is absolutely inexcusable. It's something one would expect from the Soviet Union as they were collapsing - not from the world's elite super-power. And it is the result of liberals gutting the defense budget over and over and over while throwing trillions of dollars at the welfare class in order to purchase votes.

The men and women who server in our military deserve much better than this. They deserve the best. The best supply chain. The best parts. The best technology. The best equipment. And the best benefits (healthcare, education, etc.). Traditionally, the military has voted Republican for this very reason. The left should be ashamed at how they not only treat our military (which is worse than dirt) but also how they advocate to take more money from them and treat them even worse than they do now. Not only should we not cut the defense budget one penny more - we should increase the defense budget at least 50% (if not double it).

  • Marine Corps mechanics have had to scavenge F-18 parts from museums to keep their planes flying. Even with the scavenging, only 30% of those F-18s are ready to fly today. Unfortunately, similar serious challenges face all the military services.
  • The 2016 Index of U.S. Military Strength looked at the size, capabilities, and readiness of each part of the military and concluded that as a package the military is only “marginal” in its ability to protect America.
Congress Must Act Now to Start Rebuilding the US Military
It would be hard to scavenge for parts of an F-35.......Oh and sequestration was a GOP idea.....
Actually, it was Obama's idea. They just agreed and let him have it, which they always did.
Obama played them like a fiddle. He wanted to gut defense all along. When he got them to "compromise" on sequestration being to defense, he made sure to over spend so that sequestration would kick in. He not only got to throw money at everyone to purchase votes, but he also got to automatically gut defense. It was a perfect win-win for him.
It is a rightwing myth that Obama gutted the military. Any cuts were a result of Congressional sequestration. All they had to do was agree on a budget
He does not seem to understand how it works..that it is several hundred who decide what budgets go where, not one man...

Regarding the defense spending, I have a question. Whenever a bill is presented for military spending, shit gets added to it. That's always the way it goes. If our military needs something, then everyone has to agree to a shitload of pork being added as a condition to get it passed. Then the total spending for the bill goes from reasonable to outrageous, yet it is still called a defense bill. So, does the total for the entire thing get listed as spending or defense? I never, ever see a total for pork spending when looking at budget figures, so we know that the pork spending is considered part of whatever bill it was added to. Libs like to add a lot to any requests for military spending. Many libs reluctantly agree to anything for the military and it takes a lot of favors to get some to vote for it.

I recall a bunch of crap getting added to a bill that started to get our military some much needed safety gear and I bet the entire thing was filed under military spending even though the pork spending was greater than the original amount needed for troops.

You won't see much unrelated pork added to military contracts anymore. Hat you do see is contracts targeted for each Congressmans district

Everything you said is on the mark. Two things stuck out. First, it IS the responsibility of the government, as stated in the Constitution, to provide defense. Secondly, it's NOT the responsibility of the government to financially support individuals that won't support themselves.

The ranting and raving by Liberals about military spending can't revolve around a lack of authority the government has to do so. Their entire argument centers around their not liking the amount that is spent. Sad thing is they don't mind spending billions on things for which none have ever been able to show a direct authority of the government to do.
according to the Constitution, we are NOT suppose to even have a standing Army or spend money on a standing Army except when ''called up'' for 2 year periods at a time... our founders KNEW the dangers of a Military industrial complex sucking all of our Nation's money....

By the way, it's been shown how the defense budget is bloated by pork and the greed of defense contractors, the information is out there that many "unnecessary" weapons systems are lobbied for and sold to a compliant congress, and anybody that denies waste in the Pentagon's habits is either crazy - or a liar. So where are the "liberal lies" your narrative starts off with in this first sentence of the OP?
They are all over this thread - where I provided indisputable evidence that our military is not "bloated" but in fact is underfunded.

It's easy but it will involve you answering a question first. How often is the consideration for appropriations for the military done?

The Republican nominee for Commander-in-Chief thinks otherwise on your concept of "defense" saying many times Bush should have been impeached for his and his cohorts wielding American power for the personal preferences of a few neocons. And Saddam? His opinion;

"The United States "shouldn't have destabilized" Iraq, now a hotbed for the Islamic State group 13 years after the US-led invasion, said Mr Trump, who showed lukewarm support for the war before it took place and later opposed it."

"He was a bad guy - really bad guy. But you know what he did well? He killed terrorists. He did that so good," Mr Trump told supporters on Tuesday in Raleigh, North Carolina."

Trump praised the Iraqi strongman, who was hanged in 2006 CREDIT: AP

"They didn't read them the rights. They didn't talk. They were terrorists. It was over. Today, Iraq is Harvard for terrorism," the Republican firebrand added."

I don't usually quote the asshole and hardly ever agree with him but hey! that's not any liberal talking, that's your Party's leader.

You mean a devout liberal believes we shouldn't have taken out Saddam Hussein? Shocking... Trump is a life-long Dumbocrat genius. He made massive campaign contributions to Hitlery Clinton, radical Harry Reid, and others. He voted Dumbocrat, contributed to Dumbocrats, and spoke on behalf of Dumbocrats.

Yeah....um....the Constitution says the appropriations of money shall not exceed two years. In other words - they may not budget 30 years in advance. At most, they could budget two years in advance. That was to ensure responsible spending by government. Something that ceased to exist with the rise of liberals in the early 1900's.

That's the correct answer. Annually.

Now, another question. What time frame did the Constitution use when it came to the appropriation of money for supporting an army?

Nothing "kicks in automatically". That was a deal between Republican's and Dumbocrats because Obama and the Dumbocrats wouldn't stop spending. Obama added more to the national debt in his first four years than all other presidents combined in U.S. history did in their first four years.

The deal was sequestration would only kick in if Congress was unable to pass a budget. It was meant to be a cliff that Congress would not dare go over
But they would rather default to sequestration than compromise on a budget

Why do you think we need to be limited by the thinking of 18th century Slave Rapists?

Hey, if these guys were so smart, they'd have invented indoor plumbing or ended slavery.

Modern world, you need to budget 30 years out.

When it comes to the defense budget politicians should keep their friggin' noses out of it and pay attention instead to the needs the heads of the various services say are required. Often I've read about various assets contracted for and in the production pipelines for equipment that's not needed, in lieu of other assets the services are short of. But the pols won't cancel contracts and redirect that money where it's really needed because it will affect, for example, factory workers at a plant in some representative's district or senator's state. So the money gets spent on superfluous stuff that sits around unused, and then they complain we need more money for defense spending!

I'm all for a strong defense but cut out the wasteful spending and get our forces the resources they really need to defend us.

You don't think the people of Iraq are better off because we removed Saddam Hussien?

LMAO. The fact you think the Iraqis are better off today than they were under Saddam means..........You win the prize for the most stupid poster of the day. Congrats. And keep trying. You can do better.

Legislative historyEdit
On August 2, 2011, President Obama signed the Budget Control Act of 2011 as part of an agreement with Congress to resolve the debt-ceiling crisis. The Act provided for a Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction (the "super committee") to produce legislation by late November that would decrease the deficit by $1.2 trillion over ten years. When the super committee failed to act,[9] another part of the BCA went into effect. This directed automatic across-the-board cuts (known as "sequestrations") split evenly between defense and domestic spending, beginning on January 2, 2013.

The sequestration became a major topic of the fiscal cliff debate. The debate's resolution, the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 (ATRA), eliminated much of the tax side of the dispute but only delayed the budget sequestrations for two months, thus reducing the original $110 billion to be saved per fiscal year to $85 billion in 2013.[10]
