Correcting the liberal lies about the defense budget

1) Why does the U.S. have to police the world, shouldn't it demand that every other nation pay it's fair share in the Global fight against terrorism? Right now terrorism is really the only major active threat isn't it?
Because when we didn't - Hitler and the Nazi's marched all across Europe and made our livings a living hell trying to stop them. And the Soviet Union spread communism across the globe and made our lives a living hell trying to reverse the damage.

In a nutshell - anyone with a fraction of common sense would tell you that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It is in our security interests to be the "world police". We sure as hell don't do it for fun.

They goosestep all the time..

The false liberal narrative is that we have some insane, unimaginable defense budget that is "bloated", "unnecessary", and "wasteful". They of course follow that false narrative up with "take that money and use it on public assistance". And that is why they are lying about the defense budget. Because the socialist "public assistance" agenda is unsustainable. It is bankrupting this nation and the left doesn't want to let go of it. So they create a false narrative about something (defense) which is not only exponentially more vital, but also the constitutional responsibility of the federal government.

The military has actually been forced under Barack Obama to scavenge museums for the airplane parts they need to keep their aircrafts flying. That is absolutely inexcusable. It's something one would expect from the Soviet Union as they were collapsing - not from the world's elite super-power. And it is the result of liberals gutting the defense budget over and over and over while throwing trillions of dollars at the welfare class in order to purchase votes.

The men and women who server in our military deserve much better than this. They deserve the best. The best supply chain. The best parts. The best technology. The best equipment. And the best benefits (healthcare, education, etc.). Traditionally, the military has voted Republican for this very reason. The left should be ashamed at how they not only treat our military (which is worse than dirt) but also how they advocate to take more money from them and treat them even worse than they do now. Not only should we not cut the defense budget one penny more - we should increase the defense budget at least 50% (if not double it).

  • Marine Corps mechanics have had to scavenge F-18 parts from museums to keep their planes flying. Even with the scavenging, only 30% of those F-18s are ready to fly today. Unfortunately, similar serious challenges face all the military services.
  • The 2016 Index of U.S. Military Strength looked at the size, capabilities, and readiness of each part of the military and concluded that as a package the military is only “marginal” in its ability to protect America.
Congress Must Act Now to Start Rebuilding the US Military

"Obama has gutted the military" is a phrase commonly bandied about by the right in America.
Not nearly as much as the left's "commonly bandied" false narrative that we have a "bloated" defense budget.
But has he really? Doesn't it make sense that the military budget decline reflects the fact that America is

Report Reveals $8.5 Trillion Missing From Pentagon Budget

Yahoo Money’ The Daily Ticker quoting a Reuters investigation that reveals that $8.5 trillion – that’s trillion with a “T” – in taxpayer money doled out by Congress to the Pentagon since 1996 that has never been accounted for.

"You read that right. While Republican politicians rush to slash food stamps for the 47 million Americans living in poverty – the highest amount in nearly two decades – Republican U.S. Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel has the audacity to complain that $20 billion dollars in automatic sequester cuts to the massive and secretive $565.8 billion Defense Department budget are “ too steep, too deep, and too abrupt,” all while the Pentagon and the Defense Department are overseeing massive fraud, waste, and abuse.

For anyone wondering, Reuters reports that the D.O.D.’s 2012 budget totaled $565.8 billion, more than the annual defense budgets of the 10 next largest military spenders combined, including Russia and China.

In an interview, Linda Woodford, an employee at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service – the Pentagon’s main accounting agency – reveals to Reuters that she spent the last 15 years of her career simply “plugging in” false numbers every month to balance the books;

“A lot of times there were issues of numbers being inaccurate. We didn’t have the detail … for a lot of it.”

In the REAL WORLD, that would be called MASSIVE FRAUD."

Searcher - Along with all the pork and Robert Gates' unnecessarily spent $6.9 billion etc. etc. etc. I call that "bloat", and so do real fiscally responsible conservatives.

Does it make sense that our military personnel has to scavenge museums for the parts necessary to keep our aircraft in the air

Searcher - Maybe if a gigantic amount of money wasn't being pissed down the drain on junk weapons systems that enrich gigantic weapons manufacturers like Lougheed Martin and lobbied for by in-the-tank elected representatives stories like your scavenging marines wouldn't exist. By the way, scavenging has a long and distinguished history in every military in the World, not that I'm defending it in this case. It is though a fact of life that the logistics of war eventually catch up with any over-extended Force. Liberals and progressives have been warning about the danger and unfairness of over-extending the modern all volunteer Armed forces for more than a decade.- “Unlike previous wars, we did not have a period of time afterwards where we did not have tasking,” said Col. Salene. “There was no time to catch our breath.” And
"Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornets are supposed to have a shelf life of 6,000 hours, but they are being refurbished to extend the life to 8,000. There is talk that some aircraft might be pushed to 10,000 hours while the Marine Corps waits for the 5th-generation Joint Strike Fighter, which is slated to replace the F-18, but has been plagued by cost overruns." Most of these problems can be blamed on the politics of pork, not liberals.

Searcher - Reading this following story could make you weep, it's the ages old story of war-profiteering coming before the welfare of the American fighting men and women. It's a cop out and blindness to try pin this on liberals. Don't get me wrong, Democratic stooges in government are as guilty as the Republican puppets of the Mil/Ind. complex billionaires.

How This Shitty Jet Could Provide 23 Years of Free College for Everyone

One failed jet vs. providing higher education to two generations.

FacebookTwitter

$1.45 trillion is a lot of money. That’s the estimated total cost of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, which can’t even fire its own gun until 2019 due to software issues. It’s also the estimated cost of providing tuition-free public higher education for every student in the US until 2039. Which one would you choose?

The F-35 is the epitome of Pentagon waste and cronyism. The US has already spent roughly $400 billion on the jet, made by top defense contractor Lockheed Martin. The Pentagon has already promised to buy 2,443 jets for the Air Force, Navy, and Marines in an effort to “modernize” the current fleet of fighter jets.

But the F-35 is a lemon. Last year, it was revealed the F-35’s 25mm cannon couldn’t fire due to inefficient computers, and even once it does, the jet is unable to carry even a minimal amount of ammunition.

“There will be no gun until [the Joint Strike Fighter’s Block] 3F [software], there is no software to support it now or for the next four-ish years,” an anonymous Air Force official told the Daily Beast. “Block 3F is slated for release in 2019, but who knows how much that will slip?”

Along with weapons issues, the F-35 can’t even fly — its fleet wasgrounded for month in June of 2014 after engine malfunctions resulting in the jet catching fire before takeoff. Since 2007, the F-35 has been grounded 13 times due to takeoff issues. In 2008, the RAND corporation tested the F-35 in a simulated air battle with China, and graded the F-35’s performance as “double-inferior,” warning in its report that the F-35 “can’t turn, can’t climb, can’t run.”

To truly illustrate the astonishing waste behind the F-35, this interview with Pierre Sprey, the man who designed the F-16 fighter jet, reveals the inefficiency and stupidity that led to the F-35 project:

What an absolute crock of liberal crap...

1.) It is not the responsibility of the government to provide a college education to people. This is typical greedy, lazy liberal bullshit.

2.) Every advanced and sophisticated piece of technology experiences difficulties in development. Some ultimately fail and never come to fruition. Does that mean the United States military shouldn't innovate? Does that mean the United States military shouldn't create new weapons systems? By that "logic" the U.S. military should be using muskets and canons in the 21st Century. :cuckoo: Do you have any idea how many setbacks there were with the nuclear bomb? But that technology has kept America out of a World War for almost 80 years now.

3.) It sure doesn't seem to bother your side of the aisle when government illegally and unconstitutionally pisses away trillions of dollars on the "green energy" scam. Half a billion dollars alone to Solyndra. One company, one payment - and it still went bankrupt and out of business (and White House emails shows the Administration knew it would still go out of business even with the money but threw it at them anyway to make sure their pals who started the company left with their pockets stuffed with cash). Government has been pissing away trillions on it since the 1970's and we have absolutely nothing to show for it.

That was a weak and absurd point that you attempted to come at with me. You're going to have to do much better than that. I'll even add another one for you - George W. Bush's "virtual fence" along the Mexican border cost over a billion dollars before it was finally scrapped. But any rational person (i.e. someone who is not a liberal partisan hack) understands that that is what happens when developing new technology.

By the way, your boy Obama spent a staggering $2.1 billion on a fucking website. That's right - over $2 billion for technology that was perfected in the early 90's and which people can develop for literally a couple hundred dollars. And Obamacare isn't even the constitutional responsibility of the federal government like defense is.

The false liberal narrative is that we have some insane, unimaginable defense budget that is "bloated", "unnecessary", and "wasteful". They of course follow that false narrative up with "take that money and use it on public assistance". And that is why they are lying about the defense budget. we spend 600 Billion a year on the military. and apparently, we struggle fighting third world countries.

Fighting wars on the other side of the planet for the Jews and the Oil Companies is not "vital".

Congress Must Act Now to Start Rebuilding the US Military

This is hilarious

The US defense budget was $664 billion in 2011, that's about 18% of the total federal budget. Some of this goes into defending the budget, hence the term "defense".

Iraq war costs U.S. more than $2 trillion: study

However the war caused people to be killed or maimed and end up on social payments. They estimate that $6 billion could be spent on former troops from Iraq alone in 4 decades. But apparently sending them in to get shot at is okay, paying for them afterwards is "bankrupting the country".

Based on your 'logic' all of these other countries are doomed to annihilation:

bar-chart-defense-spending.jpg
What do you know - a liberal points to another country because they can't defend their indefensible position. I keep posing this question but no liberal will answer it for me Carb. Maybe you'll be the first. If these other nations are so great - how come none of you liberal denounce your citizenship and go live in them? And how come people from all over the world risk their lives (literally risk their lives) to come here to the U.S.?

To answer your question - yes, everyone of those nations is in very serious danger of being "doomed to annihilation". If you had studied history, you would realize that the last time there was a World War - France got their pitiful little asses kicked and surrendered. They would still be speaking German had the U.S. not come in and rescued their ass. The rest of the nations towards the top of your list (Russia, Japan, Italy) with the exception of the UK were the axis of evil (who ultimately lost World War II).

Congrats - you literally just made the worst case ever for why the U.S. needs to cut the defense budget. The nations you listed were either overthrown and surrendered or were part of the aggressors that got their ass kicked by the United States. So basically - you want the U.S. to be so weak another nation could over throw us? Typical liberal.

IOW you have no good answer.

There's a reason we have trillions in debt. There's a reason our infrastructure is falling apart. There's a reason more and more nations are beating us in education...

...the big long blue column in that chart is the reason.

As someone who was in military logistics for almost a decade, I can settle this.

The military is adept at pissing away money. They keep open bases they don't need, they buy ships and equipment they don't want, mostly because they are job programs. They buy planes for military scenarios that are no longer expected to be fought.

We spend over $1 trillion per year on public assistance (or roughly 32% of the total federal budget) and that's not even remotely constitutional.

No, it's just humane.

But hey, I think you guys need to totally run on a platform of getting rid of Public Assistance.

YOu need to start with Social Security, Medicare and Unemployment Insurance... or as I lovingly call them "White People Welfare".

I gave you a very good, comprehensive answer. So good that you can't dispute it so you need to pretend like I didn't give you one.

There is a reason we have trillions in debt - it's called liberalism. Over $1 trillion per year on unconstitutional public assistance coupled with failed liberal economic policy equals debt. And let's not forget their deviant obsession with throwing money around in exchange for votes:

1. Forest Service to Replace Windows in Visitor Center Closed in 2007 (Amboy, WA) - $554,763
Despite having no plans to reopen a shuttered visitor center at Mount St. Helens in Washington State, the U.S. Forest Service is spending more than $554,000 to replace its windows.

2. “Dance Draw” - Interactive Dance Software Development (Charlotte, NC) - $762,372
The University of North Carolina at Charlotte received more than $760,000 in stimulus funds to help develop a computerized choreography program that its creators believe could lead to a YouTube-like “Dance Tube” online application.

3. North Shore Connector to Professional Sports Stadiums, Casino (Pittsburgh, PA) - $62 million
ederal money has covered the vast majority of costs, with the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) agreeing to provide $348 million—nearly the full original cost—leaving state and local governments responsible for a small fraction.30 Even with that level of assistance, the Port Authority still threatened to shut down the project due to the enormous cost overruns. With an infusion of more than $62 million in stimulus money, the project was taken off life support.

4. FEMA Stalls Two Fire Stations More Than a Year, Increases Costs (San Antonio, TX) - $7.3 million
The City of San Antonio is hoping that there aren’t any fires for at least a year in the vicinity of two planned fire stations, thanks to “help” from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

5. Abandoned Train Station Converted Into Museum (Glassboro, NJ) - $1.2 million
Taxpayers may not be happy to learn that they are paying for one broken down train station twice. The Glassboro train station was built in 1860 and closed in 1971. Unused for nearly 40 years, it now sits boarded up and riddled with graffiti.

6. Ants Talk. Taxpayers Listen (San Francisco, CA) - $1.9 million
The California Academy of Sciences is receiving nearly $2 million to send researchers to the Southwest Indian Ocean Islands and east Africa, to capture, photograph, and analyze thousands of exotic ants.

7. Stimulus Project Threatens Pastor’s House (Newark, OH) - $1.8 million
An Ohio road project received $1.8 million in stimulus funds,56 despite the threat it poses to the residents of over two dozen homes next to it. Pastor Greg Sheets of Newark, Ohio’s Truth Tabernacle 57 has already lost his front yard to the project, and could lose his entire home.

8. Old Abandoned Iron Furnace Gets Facelift after Money Squandered on Same Project Years Before (Fitchburg, KY) – $357,710
Once considered ahead of its time, the Fitchburg Furnace in Kentucky was abandoned after just five years in service—it then sat unused for nearly 140 more. Now it is getting a $357,710 makeover to repair stonework on the old structure and allow historians to conduct research.

9. Power Plant Construction Won’t Start for at Least Two Years (Kern County, CA) - $308 million
BP may have found itself staring down huge financial losses over the past several months, but executives can take solace knowing that a stimulus windfall will help offset them. On September 28, 2009, Hydrogen Energy California, LLC (HECA), owned largely by BP, was awarded $308 million86 in stimulus funds to “generate more environmentally friendly electricity by capturing carbon dioxide from the burning of fossil fuels.”

10. Town Replaces New Sidewalks With Newer Sidewalks That Lead to Ditch (Boynton, OK) - $89,298
People around Boynton, Oklahoma were left scratching their heads after the town was awarded nearly $90,00096 to replace a quarter-mile stretch of sidewalk that was replaced only five years ago. Another resident, Mike Lance, noted that “the best indication of the absurdity of the project is what the contractor did with a section of sidewalk at the north end of town – one that fronts no homes or businesses, and leads directly into a ditch.”

These are is why we are trillions in debt. Not the "blue bar".

The U.S. spends 43 cents out of every defense dollar on earth
And yet our military has to scavenge for parts from museums... :eusa_doh:

Clearly we need to be spending $0.83 out of every defense $1.00. It's ok though - we have the money. We illegally spend over one trillion per year on "public assistance". All we have to do is take half of that money and apply it to defense. Then take the other half and apply it to the national debt. All of our problems solved.

You have posted that bullshit before and it didn't fly

The reason they went to a museum was because it was an old airframe and it made more sense to salvage an old part then issue a procurement to fabricate a single replacement part. It was done to save money not because they are anywhere near destitute

The reason they went to a museum was because it was an old airframe and it made more sense to salvage an old part then issue a procurement to fabricate a single replacement part. It was done to save money not because they are anywhere near destitute
Nobody knows how to make stuff up like RW. It wasn't a "single" part. There are many planes requiring many parts which they are forced to scavenge.

The U.S. spends 43 cents out of every defense dollar on earth

What parts would they be scavenging, since they remove the engines and fuel tanks when they are put into a museum..??
When I was in during Reagan we could have shelf stock of repair parts..
Exactly. Because Ronald Reagan properly funded the U.S. military. Instead of gutting defense like Carter, Clinton, and Obama, he increased spending on defense. And all you had to do was walk over to the shelf and get the parts you needed.

Reagan borrowed heavily to use the defense budget to fuel his economy. Most of the weapons systems he bought were obsolete within ten years
