Why? Because of global warming. The same global warming that existed millions of years ago. Earths climate is not static, it is in a constant state of chaos and has been for billions of years. That's why we had had a total reversal of the poles, world wide droughts, world wide floods, world wide fires, ice ages, mass extinctions, total loss of the ozone layer and so on.

And as far as the maui fires? Improper preventative measures are a big reason for the fires. They didn't clear cut dead wooded areas, tons of dried out vegetation laying around. Basically they weren't taking care of the vast amounts of dry kindling laying around like most other states do. It's exactly what happened with the California fires because they spent all their money on fire fighting equipment and had none for fire prevention.
