The ideology of U.S. conservatism has only a few absolutes, but one of those at the top of the list is “corporate profits have priority above all else”. In conservatism’s version of capitalism there are no ethical requirements as to the method employed to obtain these profits. In fact, the Republican majority in congress is presently in the process of again reducing ethical requirements of the banking industry and Wall Street.
As mentioned in the thread’s title, the boy wonder, Martin Shkreli is going to prison for seven years.
Shkreli’s rise to fame (or infamy) began shortly after he bought the rights to produce Daraprim. The cost to produce Daraprim is not all that great, but because the market for Daraprim is so small the profitability is just not there. For this reason no other company is willing to spend the money to produce a much cheaper generic version.
Shkreli became a household name and quickly gained the love and admiration of U.S. conservatives for his inspired profit making scheme. He increased the price of Daraprim, a drug used by AIDs and cancer patients from $13 to $750 overnight. A brilliant and, legal move, though heartless. So, conservatives can take comfort knowing Shkreli faces no federal changes for price-gouging.
While Shkreli IS going to prison, it isn’t because he was found guilty of securities fraud and conspiracy. Both of these offenses are committed regularly, by other conservative heroes with decades more experience in greed and cover-up than Shkreli.
Martin Shkreli will serve seven years, not because he is guilty, but because he alienated the fat cats who use the corrupt and crooked to further enrich themselves. For their service, the fat cats provide their henchmen with the “get out of jail, free cards” they need to avoid prosecution for screwing small investors and consumers on a daily basis.
Shkreli’s conviction and sentence should be a lesson to any other young upstart. A lesson in the oligarchs who control our political and judicial system, and why they must be shown respect at all times.
As always, thoughtful comments are welcome. Unfortunately, the conservatives remain either unaware or will deny their individual response to this thread is their typical nonsense consisting of denial, alternate facts, and/or off-topic silliness. (e.g. non-sequiturs, ratings, transference, deflection, memes, etc.). The conservatives’ mindless prattle is expected by people of reason, who also realize it is a waste of time to offer the conservatives any reply.
