Congressional Democrats are privately preparing to hold their position in the shutdown standoff for several more weeks if Republicans do not agree to their health care demands – and not even a missed paycheck for US troops will force them to yield.

Inside the party, anxiety is rising among vulnerable Democrats about active-duty military service members missing a paycheck on October 15 — something that hasn’t happened on a large scale in modern times. But Democratic leaders are confident their party will maintain its position through that deadline and longer if necessary, according to dozens of conversations with lawmakers and senior aides.

Hard to know where to begin in commenting on that stance.

First of all, how are they "preparing?" Preparing for what? Thanks to a well-intentioned clause in the Constitution, congressfolk keep getting the paychecks, and presumably making contributions to 401k's or whatever they use to sock away funds for retirement, easily keeping up with the private school tuition for their kids, and looking forward to traveling to visit family over the holidays. Those "preparations" happen for congressfolk with or without a shutdown.

Trump may have had a stroke of genius in finding a way to pay our military after all. First, and most importantly, it prevents unneeded pain for our most deserving young Americans. But . . . second of all it allows Democrats to keep cutting their own throats while digging their own graves, while boffing themselves in the booty.

Amazing feats of dexterity, yet how often they pull them off!

I know yoi guys.regularly.have shutdowns and I try to.be onkective. The fact is that the shut downs impact Dem.voters far more and they.know that Trump knows this. Healthcare for illegals isn't very popular in 2025.

Yes, he's having a ball.

Not at all.

That's why the Democrats and "not Democrats" keep lying about it.

Good. Just think how many non critical government employees can be fired!

AWESOME!

Democrats suck at messaging but they're at least being consistent in saying that this fight is about healthcare. Premiums on the Obamacare exchange are about to become unaffordable for millions, and believe it or not, this is going to piss off a lot of MAGA voters.

I am hoping the voters in WA hold Cantwell and Murray accountable and replace them.

So how did people afford them before the subsidies were raised due to COVID?

Did those millions give up their healthcare? Did they die off? Were their bodies hidden in mass graves?

Why did we not hear about the millions dying because insurance companies in 2019 did not get the COVID supplement?

They do not suck at messaging. Their message sucks.

so when do 'we the peeps' get to shut 'them the gub'mit' down? ~S~

They must think that they are US Grant.

I'm prepared to fight it out along this line if it takes all summer.

Enjoy your Cold Harbor vile dems.

Congression Dems: We can do this "several more weeks."

I certainly hope that they do, I'd even like to see them go several months, the longer the better.
Each passing day shows the American people just how little difference having those leeches on the payroll provides for their quality of life.

Exactly. The longer this goes, the more we can shrink the federal government.

Well, it has been two weeks since they said that they could do it several more weeks. Another week and the permanent dependency class loses its WIC and SNAP benefits.

Biggest mistake that Democrats made was making an issue of congresswoman-elect Gravitas not being sworn in due to Johnson not bringing the House in session during the shutdown.

Johnson may not have even realized the benefit of not having that bill about the Epstein Files come to the floor until she is sworn in. Now they gave him the idea and he can ride it out as long as Senate Dems stay stubborn.

Still, once their constituents actually have empty EBT cards, empty fridges, and empty stomachs, Dems will either have to pass the CR or look for new careers.
