Confederate soldiers becoming U.S. Senators after the civil war

Actually nothing insurrectionists becoming senators
If you knew how to read, you'd know that the 14th Amendment, Section 3 applies to those who at one time swore an oath to the US Constitution as members of Congress or the other two branches of federal government AND THEN broke that oath by fermenting insurrection....not just every Tom, Dick, and Harry con-federate. Reading comprehension is your friend.....

Officers are appointed presidents are elected

Actually, they sold out recently freed slaves in return for political deals with former confederates.
Not something to be proud of.
Gave us Jim Crow.

You ended up with Black Congress members with former confederates
You're talking about Democrats though. Shouldn't you feel ashamed? Or maybe we can just let history lie and learn from it and allow people to be who and what they are now. I know that goes against all Democrat style vindictiveness, but it really is the better way.

Stop the partisan Bull Shit

It was a North/South issue with slavery being a legacy of southern culture a hundred years before the Democratic Party was formed

It was Democrats who promoted and defended slavery not Republicans that were founded as the anti-slavery party. You can call that partisan bullshit if it bothers you, but it's a fact.

And all that was a very long time ago. Honorable people see it as history to learn from but otherwise unimportant to the here and now. Those embroiled in partisan bullshit keep bringing it up in a totally false way to attack Republicans and conservatives.

Double down on partisan bullshit
Slavery was part of southern culture. The fact that they turned from being Whigs to Democrats had nothing to do with it.

The larger concern is why do TODAYS Republicans defend Confederate Heritage?

The Confederacy is something we, as Americans should be ashamed of.

Well I'll add you to the group who really needs some remedial education and reading comprehension. Because you've got it totally wrong. Republicans don't defend Confederate heritage. They defend Confederate HISTORY, a much different thing. The Democrats would erase it from our history but it is part of our history and should be studied and understood in its entirety. (Maybe it's because it is Democrat heritage and you are ashamed of it?)

Nobody is erasing Confederate History
The shame is for all to see
Every child should learn of the horrors of Slavery and Jim Crow

Celebrating the Confederate Flag and defending monuments to the Confederacy is not history…it is a stain on our nations history

No one gives a shit.
~~~~~~
Apparently Democrats do. Why else do they want to erase their history of hate, segregation and racism by tearing down the statues they themselves erected?.....
The next thing you will hear about is Democrats demand changing names of all the buildings and bridges named after Robert Byrd in West Virginia.
Where are all the monuments in the South to those oppressed by slavery and segregation?
Instead, southern communities chose to erect monuments to those who enforced Slavery.
Using your ultra partisan leftist ideological argument, it is you who should reject the Democrats who put up those monuments and established the Jim Crow laws.
And if you think Democrats aren't erasing our history by tearing down or moving monuments, statues, artwork etc., banning school curriculum that is at all favorable to the south, rewriting the history to fully demonize the south while pretending that wasn't the Democrats, and pushing things like CRT and other idiocy, you really are out of touch with reality.
