My wife's college educated parent's, one of whom graduated top of his engineering class, don't understand the intricacies of Communism despite growing up under Communist rule and living there through their early working years. Only you lefties who have discussed the topic in depth over $5 lattes in college have a true understanding of how Communism works and how a country gets there.

You probably don't realize this, but your "list" is comically one-sided and hyperbolic. That tells me that the odds of having an interesting conversation on this are very low.Can you pick a couple of these items that the Democrats do NOT support? Do you support these ideas?
Communism
A way of organizing a society in which the government owns the things that are used to make and transport products (such as land, oil, factories, ships, etc.) and there is no privately owned property.
Do you really think any populace that ended up being Communist ever saw it coming? It can't be made so obvious that the average slo' Joe will see it coming. The MSM has a mind-meld on virtually every Democrat in the country.
Here are the steps. Which ones do you NOT see happening or NOT being pushed by the left in the US?
1. Healthcare – control healthcare and you control the people.
2. Poverty – Increase the poverty level as high as possible, poor people are easier to control and will not fight back if you provide everything for them to live.
3. Debt – Increase the debt level to an unsustainable level. That way you are able to increase taxes and this will produce more poverty.
4. Gun control – Remove the ability to defend themselves from government. That way you are able to create a police state.
5. Welfare – Take control of every aspect (food, housing, income) of their lives because that will make them fully dependent on the government.
6. Education – Take control of what people read and listen to and take control or what children learn in school.
7. Religion – Remove belief in God from the government and schools because the people need to believe in only the government knowing what is best for the people.
8. Class warfare – Divide the people into the wealthy and the poor. Eliminate the middle class.
Following these steps there is a swift and decisive move to complete control which the people are unable to thwart.

Since I have disagreements with both parties on virtually every issue, it would not be difficult for me to find differences with any Democratic program you bring up. But I'm not into asymmetrical conservations with people like you. They bore me.

Anyone can play that game, but truly smart, thoughtful individuals are able to defend their ideas without much effort. Defending your positions seems to be a real challenge for you, instead you back down when challenged.
