I had been unaware of who Kirk was when I heard that a conservative media influencer/celebrity had been shot by a nut with a gun. It's sad how often that sort of thing happens in the U.S.

No decent person, regardless of politics, should be so callous as to say something like, "Good, I'm glad he's dead."

Congressional Democratic leaders called for unity after the killing.

Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer said "all Americans should come together and feel and mourn what happened."
