A slurry bomber will put out the fire and incapacitate the shooters at the same time.

Doesn't even have to be a DC-10....A couple C-130s would get the job done.

The firefighter still alive (now in hospital) was rescued by a Bearcat but they were taking fire the whole time from unknown locations.....Could have been scoot-n-shoot type of thing too.

The locals say that there has been a lot of eco-terrorist activity in the area with protests in nearby Spokane daily.....The area where the shooting occurred was scheduled for underbrush clearing.....Nothing else makes much sense.

That was the first thing that came to my mind as well. During the past week there have been a rash of fires set west of Spokane and along I-90 in the Spokane area. These are some sick people.

Just speculation by the locals there but when you think "who would shoot firefighters?", then you have to consider the guy who shot John Lennon.

He said he murdered Lennon in order to hurt as many people as he could, as deeply as he could.

Lots of nutjobs out there of all stripes/motivations these days.

Things settled down in Spokane over the weekend. It is one of their biggest weekends of the year. Hoopfest. Largest 3 on 3 BB tournament in the world. It will be interesting to find out who is responsible for this garbage. Sincere condolences to the firefighters' families who lost their loved ones while they were trying to make the area safe for the locals. Sad.

Total of 4 deceased arrived at the hospital a few hours ago. The rest of the crew remain on the mountain, status unknown

Reports coming in locally of hikers seeing two men in camo hunting suits carrying "boxes" on canfield last night as well
