It's an interesting situation as many comments on WION and Sky News were basically "for the first time in U.S history, the U.S government capitulated to a foreign country".

If she is going to Taiwan it was probably with the encouragement of many Asian leaders and Taiwan themselves. The way I view the circumstance, if she wasn't going to go the possibility of such a visit should not have been leaked as it would only serve to harm U.S Interests if she changed plans after the warning from China.

Once it has bee leaked that she was planning to visit there, how can she change plans without the expectation that it would do harm to Americas standing?

This is a high stakes game of poker and America have "allies" who often aren't allies at all. You have to juggle making sure principle of freedom and civil liberties are upheld in allies nations while also securing their support.

All China had to do was announce that any results of her visit would be totally disregarded by them. Making her into the center of a story with the possibility of her seeming to be a hero certainly doesn't work in China's favor. Arguably, China's interests are furthered by her disruptive presence on the American political scene. She will soon be gone; let her go unnoticed.

It does have some similarities with Russia. The USG provoked them into war, even though Russia warned for years Ukraine in NATO was a red line. Now they're provoking China with dumb Nancy’s visit, ignoring and condemning China’s warnings.

Imagine the USG issuing a warning to a foreign nation and that nation ignoring it. I suspect our government would act.

Another similarity to all this is how Ds treated Don in his dealings with Russia. They forced him to antagonize Russia so as not to look like a Putin puppet.

Now Rs are doing the same with old Joe in his dealings with China and Xi.
