Western U.S. states using up ground water at an alarming rate | Science/AAAS | News
(snip)
For the past 14 years, drought has afflicted the Colorado River Basin, and one of the most visible signs has been the white bathtub rings around the red rocks of Lake Mead and Lake Powell, the two biggest dammed lakes on the river. But there is also an invisible bathtub being emptied, below ground. A new study shows that ground water in the basin is being depleted six times faster than surface water. The groundwater losses, which take thousands of years to be recharged naturally, point to the unsustainability of exploding population centers and water-intensive agriculture in the basin, which includes most of Arizona and parts of Colorado, California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming.

man that dots is an expert on everything

law last week, now climate and environment this week

Nothing to do with climate change...and everything to do with people crowding into an area in which water is a very limited resource and always has been. Drought is part of the ecology there.. When the native vegetation starts to die off in large swaths, then you know that something out of the ordinary is happening.

Grab yourself any number of pictures of the western state landscapes and look at the native vegetation...it is fine..it is healthy...it is prospering...it is living in the environment it evolved to live in. As far as the native vegetation is concerned, drought is the normal state of affairs.

That is exactly what you will be saying when the cost of vegitables and fruit reflects the loss of the aquifers.

Pretty hypocritical of you to whine about rising costs of food when everything you want government to do will cause prices to rise, hurting the people who can least afford your ideas.

maybe the "coal roller- types" (deniers) can come up w/ an similar idea to showcase wasting water?

Meh. A lot of the exclusive communities out there are white & oriental enclaves anyway. STILL, what gives them the right to build swimming pools in the desert? ANOTHER reason why the world hates us.

More far left delusions, based on faulty programming from a the racist far left Obama drone.

Then again one of the many reasons why the extremist Muslims hate us, so if you want to appease them, then by all means carry your far left ideals to them and sit and talk to them and convert them to your far left religion.

Report back and let us know how it goes.

The message board equivalent of tucking one's tail between ones legs and running like hell. The mark of a true coward who knows he has lost his point but isn't quite grown up enough to admit it.

What do the masses think about this???

Every poll overwhelmingly supports the sentiment.......nobody gives a shit about the science in 2014.
