Peace Activist Cindy Sheehan mentioned interest in running last summer and as of April 24th she has made it official by filling her papers and beginning a ballot drive for 10,198 signatures to appear on the ballot. She will run as an independent in order to challenge Pelosi for not making impeachment a top priority. This should send a clear message to the Democrats that the peace vote will not be taken for granted, it is a victory in itself that such a high profile member of the peace movement is running against the two party system.

Ralph Nader was very supportive of her during her activism and I hope in California that the two can campaign together. Sheehan could have her own assortment of poltical figures to help her campaign including Matt Gonzalez the former Green President of San Francisco's Board of Supervisors who lost the race for mayor of the city by a slim margin. I expect Sheehan to fight tooth and nail for the seat regardless of her chances.

Pelosi had nothing to say but sweet, flowery comments about the loss of Sheenan's son but essentially was dismissive of the challenge.
