China imposes retaliatory tariffs on US goods including coal, crude oil, and large cars

China hit back at President Donald Trump's trade plan on Tuesday morning with two tiers of tariffs on American goods.

China's Ministry of Finance said it would impose a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large cars, and pickup trucks.

The announcement comes days after Trump placed a 10% tariff on all Chinese imported products, building on his campaign promise of robust tariff policy.

Trump's approach to trade with China echoes his first term in office. Throughout 2018 and 2019, the president placed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of Chinese products — including tech equipment and plastics. China previously responded in 2019 by placing 10% retaliatory tariffs on $75 billion of US imports.

Still, both lawmakers and billionaires have urged the president to rethink his tariff plan, saying that it will cost small businesses and American consumers.

Trump's last trade war with China resulted in the highest trade deficit the US has ever had with China.

Perhaps Xi will summon Trump to China again and put on another big pageant to stroke his ego with little communist children.

Trump couldn't say enough nice things about Xi after that trip.

China is a major producer of US electronics, and it's likely that cell phones, laptops, and other devices could become more expensive.

Oligarch Tim Apple, who used to be a Democrat supporter, gave Trump a million dollars for his inauguration. Precisely so Trump will exempt Apple products from his tariffs.

They’re going to make their own country pay more for energy?

Our trade deficit with them is very lopsided. They don’t import our goods nearly as much as we import theirs….so we have all the leverage.

But hey I’m all for super high tariffs on China. We shouldn’t be doing any business with these communists.

Indeed, it will push to start up manufacturing in the U.S. to offset the products presently manufactured in China.

Given the trade imbalance, China cannot win this one.

So damn amusing.

Tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico- which have already caused change- were imposed for simple security reasons. But there is a side effect of tariffs that is always lacking on this forum. That is what they [sic] do to businesses who are 'greedy' as your side says. Already, we've seen this happening.

If companies export their goods to America and those goods are being raised by 25%, then a company can pass those costs on to the consumer. But you see, if the tariff makes the product the same price as the American-made version, the Americans are smart enough to buy American-made products, thereby increasing job demand in America.

However, what is really happening is that Companies are saying we don't have to harm our customers and our own reputation by passing those costs on. We can just move our operations BACK into America and avoid the whole tariff thing completely. So, those buying these products will still be buying American.

That is called a win-win.

So, tell Me. How many Chinese companies are going to move their operations back to China to save their customers the added cost?

Trump is doubling down on failure?

Of course he is.

China just watched Trump get rolled twice.

They have their own (massive and growing) problems, and Xi isn't going to play games with our celebrity clown.
How exactly did Trump get rolled? Please explain how getting any concessions without paying for them is getting rolled.

Mexico caved, Canada caved, Panama caved and fucked China.
But, here we have idiots like Mac and dOPey toeing the completely skewed MSM headline gaslight theatre narratives claiming Trump's tariffs are failing and are terrible for the United States.
These useful IDIOTS are either incredibly stupid, or most likely deceptive agitprop junkies.
Damn, its been a DECADE of this bs from the demented LEFT, and it is pathetic.
