China Retaliates

Honestly, at this point Trump is a tariff loser!

Trump is losing this tariff war from every single country. He picked a fight right away he could not and did not win. I'm not a blind nor a hardcore MAGA so I can tell the truth about it.
How is getting concessions(any) for nothing but a threat losing?

How exactly did Mexico and Canada “cave”?

They paused their retaliatory tariffs because Trump backed off his.

As far as Panama… why happened there? China built ports on each end of the Canal. That’s what Trump is complaining about.

Those ports are still there
How can you be so ignorant for so long?

How did China get crushed?

They still have ports on either end of the canal and that was the problem
WASHINGTON — Panama says it will not renew its agreement involving China’s premier foreign investment program after Panamanian leaders met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, marking another victory for President Trump.

Panama will allow its 2017 trade and development pact involving China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” to expire, said Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino at a press conference Sunday — after months of threats by Trump to take back the Panama Canal, claiming “American ships are being severely overcharged” and accusing China of “operating” the crucial waterway.

Are the Chinese ports still at each end of the canal?

In the case of mexico they moved 10,000 army troops to the border

I have no illusions about what they will do there to fight the cartels

Maybe nothing

But we’ll deal with that next if necessary

Meaningless gestures like that to help Trump save face is all he can hope for.

They too have their pride and their people will understand the pain of retaliation much more readily than American public will understand Trump initiating trade wars that increase costs to consumers.

China imposes retaliatory tariffs on US goods including coal, crude oil, and large cars

China hit back at President Donald Trump's trade plan on Tuesday morning with two tiers of tariffs on American goods.

China's Ministry of Finance said it would impose a 15% tariff on coal and liquefied natural gas and a 10% tariff on crude oil, agricultural machinery, large cars, and pickup trucks.

The announcement comes days after Trump placed a 10% tariff on all Chinese imported products, building on his campaign promise of robust tariff policy.

[snip]

Trump's approach to trade with China echoes his first term in office. Throughout 2018 and 2019, the president placed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars worth of Chinese products — including tech equipment and plastics. China previously responded in 2019 by placing 10% retaliatory tariffs on $75 billion of US imports.

Still, both lawmakers and billionaires have urged the president to rethink his tariff plan, saying that it will cost small businesses and American consumers.

Trump's last trade war with China resulted in the highest trade deficit the US has ever had with China.

Perhaps Xi will summon Trump to China again and put on another big pageant to stroke his ego with little communist children.

Trump couldn't say enough nice things about Xi after that trip.

China is a major producer of US electronics, and it's likely that cell phones, laptops, and other devices could become more expensive.

Oligarch Tim Apple, who used to be a Democrat supporter, gave Trump a million dollars for his inauguration. Precisely so Trump will exempt Apple products from his tariffs.

Bwahhhhhhhhhahhhhhhhahhhhhhhh....

Coal and crude oil? Geezus.... They must be more concerned with the American consumer then America is. The resulting backup and supply will drop the price here continentally.
If this is punishment give me more. Lol.

How can he win if those ports are still there?

It's not the ports that interfere with business.
It's the back room dealing that goes on between China and Panama giving China cheap access to the canal while inflating the price for American access.. That is about to come to an end.

Do you want us to go in with the military and kick them out?
Since THEY are the real issue… it’s not much of a victory.

A victory would be forcing PANAMA to kick them out.

They’re going to make their own country pay more for energy?
China doesn't need US Oils&Gas at all.

It was Trump who whined and begged China to increase it's purchase of US products - as such China chose products they can drop and replace with cheaper products anytime, incl. US soy beans and corn.

Mexico caved BEFORE the tariffs were TEMPORARILY suspended.
You can lie and spin all you want, you're WRONG.
China had eyed to CONTROL the canal, and that fever dream got CRUSHED.
Fuck off with your gaslight theatre BULLSHIT.
:eusa_hand:
Bullshit. Get your head outta Trump’s YUGE ass

Not really.... Although I certainly would prefer to see that. China deserves to have some geography there as long as it's not a controlling interest.
It doesn't really matter if they're there... What matters is how the business of the canal gets conducted. Hell the Chinese ports on the western side towards the Pacific are probably 80% dedicated to deliveries on the west coast of the United States.

Since THEY are the real issue… it’s not much of a victory.

A victory would be forcing PANAMA to kick them out.

A victory is having Panama kick them out, which they just agreed to do.

:cuckoo:

I was watching video this morning where American workers were building the wall and the mexican army was patrolling from the mexican side as protection from the drug gangs
