China has suspended exports of a wide range of critical minerals and magnets, threatening to choke off supplies of components central to automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies and military contractors around the world.

Shipments of the magnets, essential for assembling everything from cars and drones to robots and missiles, have been halted at many Chinese ports while the Chinese government drafts a new regulatory system. Once in place, the new system could permanently prevent supplies from reaching certain companies, including American military contractors.

The official crackdown is part of China’s retaliation for President Trump’s sharp increase in tariffs that started on April 2.

On April 4, the Chinese government ordered restrictions on the export of six heavy rare earth metals, which are refined entirely in China, as well as rare earth magnets, 90 percent of which are produced in China. The metals, and special magnets made with them, can now be shipped out of China only with special export licenses.

The shift to other sources of these metals or other kinds of materials as substitutes will be time consuming, costly, and inflationary. All of which could be avoided but...........Dotard.

We already have the plans, blueprints, and engineered designs that bypass these types of magnets and materials.
We simply don't wish to use them because it's cheaper and the other benefit...., we are somewhat evil in that we know China is poisoning themselves by making these materials....a type of chemical warfare using economics instead of bombs.

That's what I've been saying. We, the Western World, use these materials and have pushed for devices using these materials simply because it poisons China as they produce them. (They really don't care about EPA or green initiatives).

Corporate profits might drop 5%....boo hoo. Most tech companies don't make profits. Their stock price is reflective of revenue instead of profits. A 200+P/E ratio tells anyone and everyone interested what the deal is.

A Wisconsin teen allegedly killed his parents to "obtain the financial means and autonomy necessary" to kill President Donald Trump and overthrow the U.S. government, federal authorities said in court documents.

Nikita Casap, 17, was arrested in March and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of hiding a corpse, according to Waukesha County authorities. Other charges include theft of property over $10,000 and misappropriating ID to obtain money.

Court documents show investigators are pursuing federal charges including conspiracy, presidential assassination and use of weapons of mass destruction.

The teen's stepfather, Donald Mayer, 51, and mother, Tatiana Casap, 35, were both found dead inside their home by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department on March 1, according to a press release from the department.

The sheriff's department issued a search warrant and say they found material on the teen's phone related to "The Order of Nine Angles," which is "a network of individuals holding new-Nazi racially motivated extremist views," according to investigators.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation reviewed documents allegedly written by the teen, which calls for the assassination of Trump and the start of a revolution to "save the white race," according to federal court documents.

The alleged writings shows images of Adolf Hitler with the following text: "HAIL HITLER HAIL THE WHITE RACE HAIL VICTORY," according to court documents.

Well, there will be no turning on a dime here. Both countries are just too important to each other right now.

My two concerns are (a) a bond market that is a couple of shocks away from a far worse collapse, and (b) the fact that our former friends are done with us and sniffing around at new options and alliances. Over time that dimishes us even more than we already are.

If Xi gets the upper hand here, we could have some real problems. The best Trump can hope for is complete capitulation, which would -- at best -- make a marginal difference in the lives of Americans. At GREAT fucking cost. I don't know what the rubes think this is going to do for their everyday lives, but it's too late to worry about that now. What's done is done.

If there are any rare earth minerals in the US, they're probably in Alaska. None in CONTUS.

There actually is an open pit mine for these minerals along the Eastern border in California of all places.
It doesn't do much because we don't refine much of these minerals.

Plus....

Every coal ash dump site has more REE in the ash. And Coal plants go from one end of the USA to the other.

Rare earth elements are not rare. They just are difficult to extract requiring heavy industry. The hexathanes (class of chemicals used to extract the metals) are deadly toxic, volatile, and difficult to work with.

Until they are cashed in, they are just a piece of paper. If I were cashing mine in now, I might be a little upset but I would wait.

This is all gonna settle down and come out better than ever. I've been there before. Sold the T-shirt. Lost my ass in '88 when Ronnie was suffering dementia and changed the Capital gains tax, which caused the Markets to shit the bed. So, I thought, "Hey, I have a Securities license and I'm smart. I'll get out while the getting is good!"

Bad move. Learned my lesson, too. Dumbass Rookie mistake. Cost myself a shit-ton of money that I really never made back. Now I just ride the waves and don't look back.

I would recommend that for everybody. Make your investment decisions and -- Walk away. If you made a provably bad decision, get out of it. I made a move a couple Months ago when I got out of a EuroPac fund. First move I've made in 20 years. Probably my last, too.

Inflation MUST come down or we'll all be retiring into 2 BR Condo's in The Villages. The retirement House I could have bought 5 years ago for $250k is now $600k. I can't afford that. Even worse, I can't afford the recurring expenses........ Insurance on it would be near $10k (florida), taxes over $8k.

How much has your retirement house gone up? Can you still afford it? Or, if you can, will it eat up too much of your available Capital? What this will do is to force other countries to open or re-open their own mines and manufacturing for this purpose...
