My idea is that we need a very steep and deep mine right along the border with Mexico.
It would solve a LOT of problems.

Well, there will be no turning on a dime here. Both countries are just too important to each other right now.

My two concerns are (a) a bond market that is a couple of shocks away from a far worse collapse, and (b) the fact that our former friends are done with us and sniffing around at new options and alliances. Over time that dimishes us even more than we already are.

If Xi gets the upper hand here, we could have some real problems. The best Trump can hope for is complete capitulation, which would -- at best -- make a marginal difference in the lives of Americans. At GREAT fucking cost. I don't know what the rubes think this is going to do for their everyday lives, but it's too late to worry about that now. What's done is done.

The US did just fine before it allowed itself to trade with Communist China. We thought trade would make them more democratic. It just made them stronger.
