Please explain that last sentence. I think we all wish migrants would only come across our border to pick fruit and then leave at the end of the season. This country has benefited from this for hundreds of years and we should continue to do so.

America has to decouple from China and get back to some degree of self sufficiency and start protecting itself against any adverse market changes that may arise in the future. If China and America go to war over something, who will manufacture all the iJunk Americans love to consume? Canada? Mexico? They get all their iJunk from China too. And does America have enough manufacturing capabilities to fight a war against a country of over a billion people?

Of course they want a piece of our economy. But they want India's too. China's too. We want those too. And our trading partners are looking for new partners since Trump.

My alternative would have been leave it alone. Everything was just fine. Which country has the greatest economy in the world?

China, Germany and India have just about as much GDP as we do. And maybe they hike up tariffs on stuff we can't make at home.

It's too late. An analogy would be a lifelong smoker getting a diagnosis of lung cancer and then quitting smoking. The damage is done and irreversible. I remember a course in Game Theory I had during my MBA. When you can't win a game you either try to change the rules or try to change the entire game.
