This is decades behind the times. Before the 1970s/80s, that was society's solution, no matter who the culprit. It happened in schools and in all walks of life. Back in that day, it was Psychiatrists who were saying this was the "solution" to the problem. Give them counseling and get them to different surroundings. It was other Catholic priests who were reporting back that this psychiatric counseling and new environment was not working. Oh, right. The news media didn't bother reporting this....

Since then, the Catholic Church hasn't used this solution, and the psychiatric community has also come out with the information that pedophilia (which they thought could be cured) cannot be cured. However, school districts and other continued to use this solution many years later.

Who are the most likely to hide pedophilia in their midst? Families with other family members, particularly stepfathers, although natural fathers are not immune.

In August 2011, the Catholic League criticized SNAP for what the Catholic League said was libel against then-Archbishop Timothy M. Dolan. The League also called SNAP a "phony victims' group". SNAP had accused Dolan of covering up allegations of sexual abuse.[

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the reaction of the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) to the news that an elderly New York priest was arrested for a sexual infraction:

A 16-year-old girl started working in a Bronx parish last Saturday and now claims she was inappropriately touched by an 87-year-old priest. She returned to work on Monday, where she now says she was touched the wrong way again. Then she voluntarily decided to go back to work on Tuesday, where she now claims she was wrongly touched for the third time. On Wednesday, the cops show up, with TV cameras rolling, and handcuff the elderly priest—who has never had a single allegation made against him in over 60 years as a priest—treating him as if he were Jack the Ripper.

If this isn’t surreal enough, consider that the phony victims’ group, SNAP, is accusing New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan of covering up the alleged misconduct, even though Dolan knew nothing about it. Moreover, when Dolan learned of the arrest, he immediately informed the cleric that he cannot function as a priest and must leave the parish until the matter is settled. So to accuse the New York Archbishop of a cover-up is obscene.

SNAP also says that Archbishop Dolan was guilty of “acting secretively” in a previous case involving Msgr. Wallace Harris. This is libelous: Dolan was the Archbishop of Milwaukee when Harris was suspended. When Cardinal Edward Egan, Dolan’s predecessor, learned of the alleged misconduct by Harris—which supposedly happened 30 years earlier—he notified the D.A.’s office.

According to SNAP’s press release today, these cases also show the Church’s tolerance of pedophilia. But neither of the two cases involved pedophilia: in both instances, the alleged victims were teenagers. The name of the game is to paint priests as child abusers, which is a bold-face lie. It’s time the media turned its cameras on the liars at SNAP.

I would never defend a pedophile, what I am saying I believe most of this is made up from one layer who made lots of money off a class action lawsuit. I also doubt the legitimacy of SNAP. If someone says they were sexually molested by anyone they need to tell their parents or go to the police , not the church, school or any private or public organization and then a full investigation should be made.

There was a HS teacher here who a girl accused him of sexually molesting him and went into court and in the end she admitted she made it up. The teacher said he will never teach again and moved away. Ruined his life.

Now if a Priest puts his arm around the shoulders a altar boy or any boy, I do not think that is sexual abuse. Some of these class action lawsuits brings people out of the woodwork for money, as if you read that mans lawsuit, most of his people consisted of highly educated people , doctors, lawyers, etc. Of course their names are protected and of course most people will believe an educated person more than one who is homeless.

SNAP, the woman who started it, was abused by a RC Priests who was defrocked when she told about it, and she is still a RC and involved in RC charities.
The spokesman's for the program SNAP was abused as well as his brother, who became a Priest and was said to of protected a Priest and also engaged in pedophilia. They were both, apparently abused by the same Priest who was a family friend.

Of course there are pedophile Priests, but its no more prevalent than Evangelical , Jewish , Police, Teacher or anyone else's pedophilia stats. Many cover it up.

Today anymore, most good parents will sit a child down and tells them what they need to watch out for, also not leaving children with adults (even well meaning friends and uncles) is highly prudent, and report any abuse to the Police. If a Parent goes to the employer then the parent is also to blame, as its a criminal matter and needs to be taken directly to the Police.
Also I do believe in the statute of limitations on this stuff. No stature of limitations is stupid, rape and attempted murders have limitations.

What is not understood is that Catholics do not financially support or defend pedophiles. They financially support and defend their faith. It was Catholics, both clergy and laity, that did the house cleaning and changed policies and procedures. We were the ones in the arena, not you.

I've used this comparison before: One twelfth of Jesus chosen Apostles betrayed and failed him. All the pedophile priests do not amount to the eight percent Judas represented--but the Church mopped up after him and continued on. So does the Church mop up after the one percent that caused such damage back in the 60s and 70s--and continues to do so to this day.

There is no excuse to call the Catholic faith vile. That judgement is where the shame lies. No one, including the Church, is perfect. But let's not be so hasty to trash the ninety-two percent who are doing all they can to live their faith according to God's will--and who work to heal after the other eight percent go about betraying.
