I saw this question asked on twitter, because they’re both about to hit their 25th year anniversaries. The overwhelming answer in the poll I saw was Heat. That’s proof that I’m a contrarian because I though Casino was ten times better. Heat of course had the epic shootout scene and Pachino is Pachino, but Casino was a Sorsese classic. Heat was ok IMO, but if you watch it now it’s kind of cheesy. Casino has stood the test of time.

Never saw Heat. Loved Casino. Peche rocks.

Pesci is one of the best for sure. Heat had an iconic shooting scene. It’s worth seeing if you have a chance. But personally I think Casino is on a whole other level.

Casino, by a fuckin MILE.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Heat, Michael Mann is great, and who doesn't love Pacino? Plus, Tom Sizemore's my dude, Slick. Unfortunately, when I think about Heat, "Slick" is the perhaps the closest thing to a memorable line that the entire movie has to offer. Even that awesome, cards on the table conversation between De Niro and Pacino in the diner. I recall the subject matter, but God help me, no quotes leap out at me.

Casino, on the other hand. . . not only was it one of the few occasions where a true gangster story was turned into a great movie with an ending that didn't feel like 2 hours of sex with no Coup De Grace, but in terms of great dialogue it was like the Caddyshack of gangster flicks. Quotables for days.

Okay, okay, Goodfellas and Scarface had some good lines, too, but Casino's still my favorite.

I liked Casino a lot more, but Heat was a great movie. They were just two completely different genres. The drama in Casino was amazing. That shootout scene in Heat was possibly one of the best shootout scenes ever filmed.

Casino is better for the storytelling, Heat for the action and interaction between characters.

Casino is better to me, but both are great movies.

I have actually never heard of either film.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

That’s surprising. There are famous films that I’ve never seen, like Star Wars for example, but I’ve heard of it. Casino is not quite as well know as Star Wars, but it’s not that far off.

Casino is better to me, but both are great movies.

Interesting take. Personally I thought Casino’s dialogue was better.

dialogue to me was equal, i'm talking about the overall interaction between characters, usually one on one.

In any event all of this is incredibly subjective.

Gotcha

I agree, there’s no wrong answer

Both are based on actual people and events. Heat is a remake of a Michael Mann unproduced television series, the pilot of which was released as the TV movie L.A. Takedown in 1989. They both get an 8.2 on IMDb...

I'll pick...

Goodfellas

It's better than both of them, it was written by Nicholas Pileggi, based on his book Wiseguy, which is the "true" story of Henry Hill.

Just for the record, Pileggi also wrote Casino and the book upon which it was based, Casino: Love and Honor in Las Vegas.

Di Nero is the Duke Wayne of crime dramas. He plays the same part no matter what movie. If you like him it's fine but I find his over-acting tiresome.

Heat

Casino is great but.....

Heat motherfucker

There’s no wrong answer. I like Casino. Casino is probably top 5 as far movies for me. Heat at the time was great, but I can’t really watch it anymore. Just out of curiosity, what’s your reasoning for picking Heat?

Also loved him as Doc Holiday
