Maybe think of it this way: There are very strict rules about mail-in ballots BECAUSE they want to make sure nothing hinky goes on. Thousands of ballots are thrown out in states everywhere, everytime there is an election because voters are either not following the instructions (there are reasons for those rules) or they are trying to pull a fast one. They get weeded out.

It should reassure people mail-in votes are valid.

Not everyone can, and in some places where there is a lot of Germ floating around, it's risky. Mail-in voting is secure. I understand the concern about the system being overwhelmed by the inexperienced, but I think people need to judge their own personal situation and make that decision themselves.

It is not the same as going to the grocery store, though. We don't all go to the store and handle the same bunch of bananas or wait in line for hours. There will be people there 'exercising their rights' by not wearing a mask. Take it easy, Red Curtain. I'm voting in person because the risk here is minimal. In states where it is allowed, a lot of people vote by mail for convenience. In this voting year, those who can safely do it should vote in person, I think, to free up that mail-in slot for someone who really needs it.

Being from the military, no it doesn't surprise me they were Trump votes. I've known a lot of military folks, and they are all Repiublicans/conservatives. That's just anecdotal, I know, but it's why it doesn't surprise me.

What if the next batch of lost ballots happens to be Trump votes too? Will that be a coincidence too?

I doubt they were thrown out:
The FBI has recovered a number of documents relating to military ballots that had been improperly opened by your elections staff, and had the ballots removed and discarded, or removed and placed separately from the envelope containing confidential voter information and attestation.
