Cantor pulls out of Biden debt talks

If they were pro growth, where are the jobs?

And why do we keep getting so much Unexpectedly Bad Economic news?

Pundit Press: "Unexpectedly" Compilation

You mean why didn't the budget busting extension of the Bush tax cuts PLUS additional tax cuts in payroll etc. NOT stimulate the economy?

You tell us. You supported them.

I didn't support the payroll tax cuts. Considering the mess that is Social Security, they were a false economy.

The reason tax rate extension alone is not enough is that federal spending has increased far above the historical 18-19% of GDP, the prospects of Obamacare are suffocating businesses, regulatory overreach is preventing of economic activity across the board, and the threat of future tax increases in 2013 is creating additional uncertainty.

Really? What is the soruce of the $1.1T worth of tax cuts?

What Obama actually did was Not Raise Taxes. That's not a cut.

Your economic illiteracy is astounding. Well, no, it's not astounding at all, you're a rightwing nut.

There were 300 billion in tax cuts in the 2009 stimulus. 800 billion in tax cuts in the December 2010 stimulus.

Nope. Extending the Bush Tax Cuts is just Not Raising Taxes. It's not a new tax cut.

Idiot.
Do you know what a "sunset provision" is dummy? Bush II had one in his tax-cuts.

Blah blah blah.

Already discussed in this thread, moron.

And now, Cantor has upped the ante:

“We are being asked by the Obama Administration to approve a debt limit increase. While President Obama inherited a bad economy, his overspending and failure to enact pro-growth policies have made it worse and now our national debt is currently more than $14 trillion. House Republicans have made clear that we will not agree to raise the debt limit without real spending cuts and binding budget process reforms to ensure that we don’t continue to max out the credit card. One option to ensure that we begin to get our fiscal house in order is a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution, and I expect to schedule such a measure for the House to consider during the week of July 25th. I have no doubt that my Republican colleagues will overwhelmingly support this common sense measure and I urge Democrats to as well in order to get our fiscal house in order."

President Obama stopped Bush II's tax-increase from taking effect boedicca  They inserted a sunset provision in the Repub legislation for a reason, his fuzzy math wasn't adding-up over time :guffaw: He knew those numbers would bust his budget so he kicked the can down the road. How noble.

Obama pursued policies that ... increased unemployment, retarded economic growth

Since unemployment has gone down and GDP has been growing for 2 years, I would love for you to prove this statement.

:lol::lol::lol::lol: Have you been living in a freaking cave??? UNEMPLOYMENT HAS GONE DOWN?!!!

First for the difference in gas prices that you LIBS BITCHED ABOUT incessantly when Boooooooooosh was in office:

Now on to unemployment:

And this has already been shown to be a terrible idea for the security of the country.

So why does Cantor want to risk the safety of our country over tax cuts for millionaires?

UNEMPLOYMENT HAS GONE DOWN?!!!

Bureau of Labor Statistics Data

When Obama took office it was projected to go to 12%. It topped out at 10.1% and has come down to 9.1%.

ROFLMAO You truly are AN ASSCLOWN. You couldn't tell the truth if your life depended on it. PROJECTED??? Hell, we're now using projections as REAL numbers???!! Talk about fuzzy math. What is it with you libs always lying???

That's incorrect. It was not projected to go to 12%. The Obama Administration claimed it would peak at 9% without the Recovery Plan.

And the only reason U3 Unemployment is 9.1% is because over 3 million people have quit looking for work. If the labor force participation rate were at the level it was when Obama took office, U3 Unemployment would be 11.2%...after the Obama Administration claimed it would peak at 8% if the Stimulus Bill were passed.

This morning we find out that House Majority leader Eric Cantor is withdrawing from negotiations over the debt ceiling talks, citing the dems unwillingness to move from thir stance on tax hikes. Cantor says a tax hike cannot pass the House and so he pulled out of the meetings.

My opinion, he can spout off about it, but walking away does not look good. Reminds me of the dems that left Wisconsin or Indiana a little bit, you're supposed to keep fighting and talking rather than quit. I'm sure this is an attempt to apply political pressure on the president, McConnell is already saying the president has to lead. Maybe it makes political sense, but could backfire if the public's perception is that the GOP is being too stubborn and uncooperative. People want results not finger pointing.

I think hes right, if the dems are adamant, and they are stuck, its time for the big boys to get involved.....

and hey that means you MR. PRESIDENT......

“We’ve reached the point where the dynamic needs to change,” Mr. Cantor said. “It is up to the president to come in and talk to the speaker. We’ve reached the end of this phase. Now is the time for these talks to go into abeyance.”

according to the "plan" we should be at 6.8% right now....

Talk about fuzzy math.

I see you conveniently ignored the reality that unemployment went from 10.1% to 9.1%.

And you conveniently ignored that the Labor Force Participation rate has dropped. If 3+ million people had not Quit Looking For Work Because There Are No Jobs, the official unemployment rate would be 11.2%.
