During World War 2 US propaganda included phrases like, "The only good Jap is a dead Jap." The Japanese were the blood enemies of the US and our allies. Using nuclear weapons against them slaughtering tens of thousands of non-combatants didn't give us the least bit of pause. If we could have snapped our fingers and made every last one of them fall over dead, we probably would have.
Then the war ended and suddenly we were much more ambivalent or perhaps even fond of them. We wont the way, they lost, we helped them recover. Funny how one week an entire country is the worst thing since Satan, the very next week once a piece of paper was signed, they're our buddies.
The things we often say about enemies during wars is being heard once again about the middle east. "ISIS should be wiped out." "Muslims are terrorists." etc. Takes two sides to have a fight. And interestingly, the middle east countries weren't an enemy a generation or two ago. They sold us oil we desperately need for our society to function. Looking at movies from the 70s and before, it's pretty obvious we didn't have the problems with them as a people or culture we do now. So what changed?
Well, we seemed to get tired of paying for oil at the prices they set. We installed more wester-friendly puppet regimes to sell us oil cheaper. Those proxie governments then subjugated and exploited their own people making them pissed at them, and those who supported them (that'd be us,) and over time as we had to intervene militarily to support our bitches, their people naturally started shooting at us too.
But isn't it amazing how quickly people turn against you when all you did was install puppet regimes over them who then abused and mistreated them. How dare they then shoot at us like we were their enemy.
If you don't accept the reality and truth of things, nothing you do to fix things will work because you're not fixing the actual problem. The reason Muslims and those in the middle east hate us in the west is because we're over there helping their oppressors oppress them. And the invading and occupying their countries doesn't help things much either. If we really wanna go back a couple generations to when arabs liked us just fine, being the customers who bought their oil and such, we need to go back to the way things used to be and quit trying to polish a turd and ignoring the realities involved.
Our national defense is geared for a nation vs nation conflict. Thus all the billions we spend on ships, planes, and tanks means nothing when our usual enemy is a few guys with rifles and RPGs. It's not their government we're fighting, but their people. To win that battle you need to listen to what the people shooting at you are saying. They're pissed because we support their oppressive governments. So if we want them to quit shooting at us so everyone can resume prosperous lives we need to consider who we're supporting. The 80s policy of just throwing more money for more guns and bombs to oppress them further doesn't work. Nor does wiping out the latest incarnation of dissatisfied peoples forming some terror group. Wipe out oen group and another just slips into its' place. Can't win a conflict where your enemy has legitimate grievances against you. All you achieve is ensuring the next generation picks up arms to avenge their parents and relatives killed last time. While that's great job security model for the defense industry and military, it's obviously is just that. It's a jobs program, not an actualw ar we're trying to win and end as quickly as possible.
Sun Tzu said, "There's no instance in history of a country ever having benefitted from prologned warfare." Of course he said that at a time when wars were expenses, not opportunities for profits.
The impression of things going on in the middle east is that the oil companies want the middle east oil. That's fine. We all need oil whether we realize it or not. But they'll sell us the oil. Seems then the reason for the difficulties is they wanna sell it to us for more than we're willing to pay. So it's really just a matter of not wanting to make less profit and we're willing to murder poeple to ensure higher profits. All the vitrol about terrorism and reliigon vs reliigon is a smokescreen. No one's going to wave the US flag for higher profits vs slightly less profits. But they will wave it for any us vs them, they're the worst thing in the world since the Japanese. But I bet all the money in my pockets vs all the money in your's that hostilities ceased, and business resumed peacefully all that would go away.
