Is Homosexuality A Choice?

You are attracted to who you are attracted to.
But I personally know someone who chose to be gay. She got tired of men, tried a woman, and been carpet munching for 30 years or so.
Maybe she was really gay the whole time? Idk. She says she wasnt.

Almost every gay male I have ever met, had several things in common:

1) Early onset of puberty with a high level of testosterone, as evidence by lots of body hair.

2) A distant father and overbearing mother.

3) Absolutely no interest in females of any persuasion, including the more masculine ones.

That's my amateur assessment, but my wife was a sociology major and studied homosexuality in college agrees with me.

I had a roommate in college that came out. I had a classmate in the Navy ROTC that accidentally outed himself to my girlfriend and he knew that I would be required to report him if I found out, and he knew he had to resign. He came and told me in advance that he was quitting. This was long before even "Don't ask, don't tell".

My theory has held up far too many times in my life to be far off the mark. However, I do believe that some people do make the choice, mostly due to lack of self-esteem.
This is anecdotal garbage.

I chose to be happy go lucky last night and everybody around me commented on my undeniable air of insouciance.

The beer was good, too.
Democrats exhibit insouciance when it comes to illegal aliens. BTW thanks, I learned a new word!! ;)

My theory is a small percentage are born Gay, a somewhat larger percentage swing both ways and the majority are born Straight.
I agree that"s probably accurate, save for the fact that these things probably come in degrees, not absolutes.

Anyone who went to college knew people who were SUPER gay, some just gay, and some just gay until they had 9 beers in them, and suddenly women became a bit more attractive.

.....and since there are fewer taboos these days, that second group is more likely kept to act on their natural inclinations.

Even though women like hockey, they often choose not to like sports, instead focusing on music, men like sports more than music so it is without doubt.

I'm like men.

In my view, based on my 60 years of observation and periodically seeing this issue debated, I don't think it's an "either-or" answer. I think genetics plays a role for certain people and for some more than others.

You can "see" the physical gayness physically expressed in many cases. Not so much in others.

Tyler Robinson, Richard Simmons, Ellen Degenerate, Rosie, etc.

Another observation of mine was about those who are born with both male and female genitalia. It's easy (for some others) to write them off as freaks, say they just need to make a choice, etc., but what their condition tells me is that sexuality (expressed from their genes) is not binary.

Even among heteros, there are higher and lower manifestations of masculinity, femininity, etc.

As a side note, I wish I could get the government to give me a grant to find the genetic link to sexuality, so I can offer expecting parents a test to see if they want to abort their unwanted progeny based on their likelihood or even unlikelyhood of being "gay."

Yeah. Just to make the point that a person's life begins at conception.

Hormonal flow is subject to change with environmental influences, IMO. Except for rare mutations, humans are born either male or female but, our sexual interests are influenced by hormones which are, in turn, influenced by environmental conditions as we mature.

It is one thing to be attracted to someone of one's own sex. It is something else to act on the attraction. I will deal with the attraction. I cannot understand why someone would choose an attraction that is condemned by Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.

I was aware of romantic feelings toward girls as early as the first grade. I never felt that way toward boys. I have never felt that way toward men.

As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I believe there is a gene that is dominant for intelligence and recessive for intelligence and homosexuality. If you have one of the genes you are more intelligent, and a heterosexual. If you have both you are more intelligent, and a homosexual.

This would explain why an attraction that reduces the likelihood one will have children is transmitted down through the generations.

I am a Christian who has read the New Testament many times in nearly as many English translations. The only person in the New Testament who mentions homosexual behavior and who condemns it is St. Paul. In his epistles I have found evidence that he may have been a repressed homosexual.

In his epistle to the Romans 7:15-24 St. Paul writes:

For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.

I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

This reads like the agony of a man who hates the fact that he enjoys having sex with men, but who cannot stop.

In II Corinthians 12:7 St. Paul writes

And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure.

This could be chronic pain. It could also be homosexual inclination's.

It is not unusual for a repressed homosexual to be publicly intolerant of homosexuality

I have a friend who is a retired administrator of state juvenile mental health facilities. She has told me a number of times that in her earlier days, the facilities were segregated by gender. As a result, many of the juvenile's first sexual experiences were homosexual which in many cases went in for years until the facilities were desegregated and males and females were housed much closer to each other and started having contact. Even after this happened, many of the juveniles continued to engage in homosexual activity simply because that is what they were used to and comfortable with.

Now, I'm not saying that some cases of homosexuality can't be inherent or natural, but obviously it's a behavior which can definitely be learned and/or chosen. No doubt about it.

No pumps of any color for men. Yuck.
My doctor, of all people, asked me if I have even made love to a woman wearing sexy underwear, a push-up bra, a garter, and leggings?

Being so old-fashioned, I thought WTF? And said no.

The Dr. said, I should give it a try to 'spice things up."

So, I decided to give it a go, but by the time I managed to get some of that shit on, I didn't feel manly at all anymore. So I bailed out.
