Can Trump's Tariff-Bloated Coffee Prices Be Brought Back Down?

I respect nations that respect the rule of law, regardless of partisan considerations or outside pressure.

In 2022, Bolsonaro lost to da Silva.

On 8 January 2023 a mob of Bolsonaro's goons stormed federal government buildings

The Suptreme Court blocked Bolsonaro from seeking office until 2030 for attempting to undermine the validity of the election through his unfounded claims of voter fraud, and for abusing his power by using government communication channels to both promote his campaign and to allege fraud.

Testimony from military officials showed that Bolsonaro had planned a self-coup with the military to keep himself in power.

In November 2024 he was indicted for multiple crimes related to the coup, and was found guilty.

Trump's tantrum because his authoritatian protégé was found criminally responsible in a court of law does not justify the blowhard's inflicting his tariff-bloated coffee prices on Americans.

Political prosecution, nothing more or less.

Brazil is about to go the way of Venezuela.

I bet the OP pays $7.00 for a cup of coffee at Starbucks when he could make it at home for well under .50 cents a cup.

It's a bit extravagant on my part sure but I buy Newman's Own K-Cups (96 count) at Costco and a 10oz cup is .41 cents.

I stock-up when they run a coupon sale. Just bought three boxes on sale so I suspect the per-cup cost is lower.

Best K-Cup coffee I've had.

To be honest I've never tried any of the Newman's Own products that were not top-notch for store bought stuff.
Exactly. Gas goes up a few dimes and we rush to place bkame Meanwhile some pay $48 a gallon for coffe made by pretentious "barristas "

I find that any store brand version of "donut shop coffee," a knock off of Duncin Donuts, is fine, and I drink it black. For people that add stuff I cant imagine the brand making a difference.

Or maybe they have crop problems in Brazil. This is from 7 months ago, but supply chain impacts don't go away overnight.

MSN
After the government's (Pete Pete Buttigieg's) screwed up management of supply chain problems, coffee prices went up precipitously.

Do you not remember, or do you just not buy coffee?

And now, b/c of bad weather in S. America, the left has the audacity to blame coffee prices returning to Biden era levels on Trump?

Seriously?

I knew the left had little understanding of how markets work, but supply and demand have much more affect on prices than tariffs ever will.

It's not just Brazil. It's Vietnam too.

Both Brazil and Vietnam have been having weather that is inclement to coffee production. And together those 2 countries produce about half of the Earth's coffee.

That means fewer, and lower quality, coffee beans.

Bottom line: The end consumer pays more money for crappier coffee.

U.S. Representatives Don Bacon and Ro Khanna plan to introduce bipartisan legislation that would exempt coffee products from any tariffs imposed after Jan. 19, 2025 ...
Bacon and Khanna said they focused on coffee because they want to help Americans save on a daily staple, according to the report...
Coffee is one of the items that are keeping food prices in the United States persistently high since the Trump administration applied a 50% tariff on Brazilian imports at the end of July, including green coffee...
Brazil used to supply a third of all the coffee used in the U.S., but shipments have dried up since the tariffs were imposed.
As of 2025, the U.S. has a trade surplus with Brazil, with total exports of approximately $26.6 billion and imports of about $22 billion, resulting in a surplus of $4.5 billion. Trump's tariffs on Brazilian coffee are purely petty and vindictive, because one of the convicted felon's cronies, Jair Bolsonaro, was convicted of attempting a coup to stay in office after losing his reelection bid in 2022.
Coffee plants across South America are being attacked by a disease akin to mold. This has been going on for the past 36 months.

It's amusing to watch Trump toadies contorting themselves to portray Americans paying bloated prices under Trump as a good thing.

It's funny to watch you say something like that when it's not happening. High grocery prices destroyed Biden's presidency and they will do it again to Trump if he doesn't find a way to control them.

Me neither, if I want it, I buy it.

I'm damn sure not going to whine over a .41 cent cup of Joe even if it did go up 50%.
No kiddi g. In fact i laugh at those who tell me i need to relicate because of the politics of my state. I could give a rats butt about that and those people should in all reality say nothing because thats their iq. Zero. Their iqis zero. I live where i want to becsuse of the climate i want.

Yep.....coffee rust and leaf mold in particular have been destroying coffee plants.

Upon closer examination under a microscope each mold spore looks exactly like Donald Trump!

Coffee couldveasily be grown in northern climates outside, truth be told.

Coffee is up 42 percent from a year ago.
