phenomena and wow, "In Exodus, he kills the first born of Egypt" describes a "natural disaster"!
You haven't read about that?
Read? It's even in the frickin' movies! You,.. have yet to respond, but I don't care. I expect you to see it as a "natural disaster" because you've clearly programmed yourself to see everything "God" as fuzzy bunnies and rainbows.. no matter what.

Shrug. You are among those who see each modern English word of the Bible as literally true. It is not a matter of seeing bunnies and rainbows, it is a matter of studying and researching histories, languages, and cultures. That includes Egyptian beliefs, history, and culture. God doesn't enter into it; people of the day do.

Next how do stories develop? How are they written? You received a short course in this in middle and high school. Why is it with some, everything they have learned about science, history, and language arts fly out the window when reading a Biblical text? Why not join the rest of us in looking at the wider perspective, with knowledge we have gained down through the years and in our own life?

Fascinating. So, in your world, "he" doesn't kill "the first born of Egypt."? If that isn't what you're trying to say, then perhaps fart twice and take a nap.

God slaughtered innocent children for what the Pharaoh refused to do.

Is that really what you believe happened? That all of these different authors were writing fictional novels?

Fiction such as a great flood and parting the seas?
Embellishment to make the account more memorable and easier to remember and pass down.

In other words, fictional tales
No, the whale did not really swallow Jonah

What if, 2000 years from now, people read Game of Thrones and accept it as Gospel?
Again... you are missing the informational aspect; the transfer of information.

But if you want to dismiss that, be my guest. It's probably easier for you that way than it is to acknowledge what it really is.

The Bible is composed of morality tales meant to inspire certain behaviors. A work of fiction

No, the earth did not flood
Jonah was not swallowed by a whale
Moses did not part the Red Sea

Makes a good story though
Considering the age of these texts, I find your conclusions to be overly simple, unbalanced and biased. It never ceases to amaze me how a group of people who see themselves as intellectually enlightened fail to actually take an intellectually balanced position on the things they hate.

Because they're simple minded and can't get beyond themselves. They think they're 'Speshul' and would have been entirely different n stuff if they had been born back then. Of course the truth is they would have been the same clueless fashion victims then as they are now.
We would have been just as ignorant, terrified, superstitious, and illiterate as nearly everyone else "back then". But we arent, now. So you have no excuse for believing this magical silliness.

Oh look everybody, the angry faggot posted something.
Oh look ^^, a self-loathing closet gay, in the religion section. Don't see that every day! Wait, yes we do.

It is amazing what can be picked up with scholarly studies of Egyptian religions, cultures, history--not to mention what happens when a story is written or told after-the-fact. However, your literal modern English, Western culture perspective is amusing as well, so carry on.

or do atheists have an obligation to hate the Bible?

What a silly thing to suggest.|

I'm a Mets fan. That doesn't I hate the Yankees.

To an Atheist, the BIble is a book. It's a really long novel; nothing more, nothing less. The fact that someone may not believe in God doesn't mean he has to hate the Bible. It just means that it's a story...

In a way, yes. However, scanning a youngster's T-ball rules doesn't infuse anyone with expert knowledge of professional football. (No one should infer from this that atheists cannot be Bible experts. It is just generally speaking.)

and/or evading the police for not wearing one.

Sorry.:safetocomeoutff:

We’re like wayward children

:backpedal:
Can I post this?

It's 2021, so by now, you should realize Christianity is all about social justice and liberating those kept down by white patriarchial cis-normative systems of oppression. Jesus said it best when he uttered the timeless command: "Go forth into all the nations, and loot them until they become Socialists."

But Jesus wasn't the only one! There are a ton of great examples of heavenly wokeness in the scriptures. Here are the top 10.

The Bible is just filled with heroes to emulate! Now go forth, and be woke!
Ironically you yourself reveal your preference for good over evil with every moral argument you make. Which also shows that you believe in absolute truth and morals. Otherwise you would have no expectation for one outcome over another.

Is that so?

Thankyou for telling me.

Do you hold seminars too?

:udaman:
Yes and I pass out free copies of Mere Christianity to everyone who attends.

Please don’t plagiarise CS Lewis.

It’s not polite.
So I can't argue that man knows right from wrong and that when he violates it rather than abandoning the concept he rationalizes that he didn't violate it?

Cause he plagiarized that from Genesis Chapter 2.

You can argue what you like.

If you could simplify your premise.
I always do.

from a christian - no need for remorse by them.

The bible is an excellent piece of literature,
I have read better books and they were written by mere mortal men.

No, you haven't. Lord of the Rings wasn't really that great, no matter what a bunch of hippie stoners say about it.

You would think a Supreme Being would be a better writer
V
It's way over your head, so you wouldn't know about that either.
Lord of the Rings is fantasy, much like the Bible

Now, what if 2000 years from now, people took Lord of the Rings as the word of God?
That wouldn't be my assessment. It's not very balanced.

It’s a better tale than the Bible.
What if 2000 years from now, people worship Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones?

When questioned....they say they have “Faith” it is all true
Is that really what you believe happened? That all of these different authors were writing fictional novels?

And that it wasn't ancient man passing down information such as history, wisdom, etc?
That’s exactly what happened.

Not sure I can agree with that.
Those free from religion always enjoy good fiction.

So it's settled... BreezeWood can't enjoy the bible.
.
I stopped reading after so many forgeries and fallacies made it impossible to read further - or become, a - bing.

correcting those errors is the goal - to return to the path the religion of antiquity properly prescribes. for freed spirits admission to the Everlasting.
