Can Anybody Please Help Me Understand What's Going On With FISA?

I stand with Trump on the Iranian war now, I'm just hoping and praying that the Iranian people aren't harmed, but I'm still not completely on board with the government spying on the American people, breaking the fourth amendment, and collecting data to give to the US military even though I wouldn't be affected by it because I don't have any friends or family members out of the country. That is unless there's something that I'm missing. I'm guessing that the reasoning for Trump wanting to do this though is to prevent foreign attackers?
