Here's the problem: since the election of van Buren no two term Democrat president has had a non-incumbent successor of his own party. If Obama can pull this off no one can accuse him of being just a bucket list president even if he is succeeded by another bucket list president such as Hillary or Warren.
In order to pull this off he must play defense on the following:
Obamacare.
Foreign Policy.
Economic policy.
This will result in a squeaker as in 2000 or 1960 with no coattails, a midterm correction election away from the party of the White House. at the national and state levels. As a libertarian I like this result because it will shorten the D bench even further and create a political vacuum. But can he pull it off?
