California compliant guns, yes that is stupid...but what about M & P 17 vs. 10 round magazines...?

Looking at the M & P 9mm it has 17 + 1 capacity.....then you have the same model with 10 + 1 for California silliness....does anyone know if the normal M&P will accept the 10 round magazines...or is there a mechanical difference?

The M&P is a double stack mag. So unless they built two entirely different guns the 17 would fit and just stick out a ways.
Option two would be an internal mag plug similar to that of a shotgun plug.
