Bus Driver To Kids:"Are You Ready To Die?"

I guess the thinking is that a bus that large shouldn't be going that fast, so carelessly anyhow. Even still judging by those pictures... It may have gotten more killed, had the bus been equipped with seatbelts...

If he doesn't tell them, who's going to check that? It only happened two months ago and most office workers have a set amount of work they are already doing for the company. They get into their daily routine and don't think "Oh maybe we should check out the license reports" which that also goes to the reporting agency. Who's in charge of making the reports? With 5 dead kids, every decision these workers made will be under scrutiny.

Plus, this is just word of mouth and unless there is audio on the bus, I doubt we'll know the truth.

So far, two children told their parents of the comment. That had to be a terrifying thing to hear. They will tell.

With the tax dollars that are awarded schools, some frivolous items could be cut for the welfare of the youngsters. But, yes, I would pay higher taxes for safer buses.

This was just about the only news reported on a local Knoxville station ... a really long segment. It was reported that one of the children said the driver asked if they were ready to die. Story is still wide open as all investigations have not been completed and other charges are still possible. Even though it was a long broadcast on one story ... it was excellent coverage. The medical staff had a press conference on the handling of the children from castastrophic training for such situations, pick-up by EMTs and other first responders to ER, the operating rooms and pediatric admissions. They vividly described the shock, fear of the children ... some of whom couldn't even give their names - they ended up taking pictures of the children and calling in teachers to identify the kids so they could contact the parents. Very, very sad.
