Tariff wars makes it impossible for businesses to plan. They are either producing too much or too little. They contract for sales of corn to China when they should have contracted for sales in Brazil. Manufacturer pay tariffs for parts from other countries that they can't get in the US then have to pay tariffs to sell abroad. Where tariffs are stable and not subject to constant change, business can adjust but they can't adjust to instability. One day Trump says the tariffs are permanent. Then he brags about his negotiations to lower tariffs.

Yep. The very last thing a business needs is uncertainty at the highest levels. It spreads everywhere.

Unfortunately Trump is aggressively ignorant about global macroeconomics. And all he knows about business is (a) how to lie to get loans, (b) how to stiff his vendors and (c) how the bankruptcy process works.

He was so venomous about his hatred for Trump and his tax cuts that clearly having the tcja go away was a key priority , no matter what. It was very clear if you didn’t cherry pick and actually looked at the plan. If you make less that $400k he was going to protect you from tax hikes by increasing the corporate rate from 21% to 28% and using those extra funds to pay for it. That was the plan that he proposed

Trump on the other hand just imposed the largest tax hike on consumers that I can remember through his tariffs. And is crashing the markets in the process which is going to decimate many businesses who can’t afford to carry that debt. It’s a complete disaster

This is exactly what I have been saying all along. Trump is incompetent and makes mistakes that are very costly. Imposing tariffs on some products is not a bad idea. Imposing across the board tariffs on all nations and on all goods is a "Blunt instrument" that is idiotic and will cause more and unnecessary problems than any that it will fix.
