Spanish minister wants Israel tried in world court for Gaza 'war crimes'

Spain's acting social rights minister has suggested taking Israel to the International Criminal Court for "war crimes," local media has reported.

Ione Belarra shared a video on Sunday, also accusing the European Union and the US of "being complicit in Israel's war crimes," the Spanish daily El Mundo said.

She called for actions to denounce Israel before the ICC and deplored the ongoing "planned genocide" in Palestine's Gaza.

Ten days into the conflict with Palestinian group Hamas, Israeli bombardment and blockade of Gaza has continued, with over 1 million people – almost half the total population of Gaza – having been displaced.

Gaza is experiencing a dire humanitarian crisis with no electricity, and water, food, fuel and medical supplies are running out, as civilians flee to the south following Israeli warning to evacuate northern areas.

Not in this tirade she didn't. In any case, there is no evidence of a war crime by Israel, so this is nothing but a political stunt.

It is not punishment if civilians are not being targeted, and according to the Laws of Armed Conflict, which is part of International Humanitarian Law, if civilians die as a result of an attack on a legitimate military target the basic principle is that the collateral damage must be proportionate to the military advantage gained by the attack. Since Hamas uses the civilians as human shields, in this war there will be a lot of dead civilians, but if the Laws of Armed Conflict are followed, there are no war crimes.

Why are people like you so blind?

The Laws of war assume both sides follow the rules. When one side abandons them, it puts the other side at a disadvantage if it follows them.

That being said the IDF won't go out of it's way to kill civilians, but if Hamas hides behind and in them, it's on Hamas.

You refuse to recognize how the Netanyahu government has done what Hamas has done for 20 years. This is why citizens in Israel are calling for Netanyahus removal.

It has refused to deal with them until they recognize Israel's right to exist.

Nothing wrong with that.

some citizens, and ones that no one appears to be listening to.

More opinions parading as facts.

Israel has refused to accept that Palestinians have the right to a state.

I have stories written by citizens of Israel and not American right wing loudmouths. Lakota posted this:

And if this doesn't show you that the problem is on both sides, nothing will.

Why accept someone's right to have a "State" when said side won't recognize yours?

Until the concept of "from the river to the sea" is given up by the Palestinians, no peace will be had.
