They were finding it hard to justify why so many blacks with a 3.3 and SAT score of 1000 were getting in while whites with 3.8 and 1300 were being rejected. So they came up with that holistic nonsense to explain about such an extreme discrepancy.

Here's the thing.

if the black kid got a 3.3 GPA and a 1200 SAT score attending a public school with inadequate resources, and the white kid got a 3.8GPA and a 1300 SAT going to a private school where he had the benefit of SAT coaching and was able to take the test multiple times until he got the score he wanted, who has the more compelling story?

More to the point, who is going to create the greater good? Someone who will give back to a community who needs it, or someone whose community is already privileged?
