BREAKING: IRS drafting plans to fire half of its 90,000-person workforce.

No one was paying taxes on tips, and social security taxes were minimal,
Social security taxes are hardly "minimal". Us old timers pay income tax at our maximum rate on 85% of our benefits, a clear case of a government greedily double dipping on the people.

Targeting strippers for underreporting their gratuities is a major function of IRS agents, as it is something that really can't be monitored by computer.

Aside from the fact that virtually all large bureaucracies are over-staffed, one wonders if the DOGE fukkers are thinking of ways to automate the IRS function as much as possible, possibly by replacing income taxes with VAT's & such.

One can never forget what Musk did at Twitter, with astounding success. He laid off 80% and nobody noticed.

Someone and/or something is still checking. Like most things in our government, the IRS is extremely inefficient and bloated.
The tax code is inefficient and bloated. Firing people doesn’t fix the problem. It’s just emotionally satisfying for your cult.

Since they can’t rewrite the law, they can’t fix the tax code.

They can't change tax rates and what must be exempt.

But they can' change IRS procedures to simplify and expedite the tax paying protocols.

Paying taxes isn’t the hard part. Calculating taxes is the hard part. The laws have tons of loopholes, caveats, and special treatment. IRS can’t change that.

And that’s not even getting into the fantasy that the IRS is doing anything of the sort to begin with.

Commentary:
Now that's what I'd call downsizing....
If we compare the dollars collected after the cuts with the dollars collected before the cuts.
There'll probably very little difference.

What will be the visible, tangible impact of these cuts? Until we know those how can we possibly decide if such a reduction is good or bad for us?

The impacts will be, the irs will go back to the same size it was before xiden’s increase

Which frankly looks the same as it does today
So there'll be no increase in call wait times when I call the IRS about a refund? I'll get my refund in around the same time I always have? There's no risk of my tax return being mislaid and me getting accused of not filing? There's no prospect of mistakes being made where I get charged more tax than I should? there's no prospect of fraudsters getting away and not paying their tax?

Were these "call wait times" shortened during the Biden years? Did you get your refund faster? Were your tax returns frequently "mislaid" before 2021? Were you "charged more tax" on a regular basis prior to 2021?

The number of positions under Biden rose from 80,000 to 90,000 so that means to get back to that level we should only be losing 10,000 positions, yes?
