You are a Socialist, through and through. The reality is that if we did as you say, we would all be living in small block apartments and sharing a hall bathroom and laundry. That would be a step up for some, but I don’t think that is the American dream that people come to the US in droves for just for an opportunity to attain. For those of us not keen on living in large ant hills, it would be even worse. Instead of being able to buy land where we please and building a home away from the large, crime-filled inner cities, we would be forced to join the herd. No thank you.

Now, we had this once. My dad was able to work a union job, afford five kids, (My mother only worked part time as an art teacher) own a two-flat, and buy that vacation land in Wisconsin (where he built this summer home with his own two hands, he was kind of a handy guy.)

None of his kids have that kind of affluence, or his grandchildren. Even with college degrees, they are barely there. My Condo is worth more than what we sold his two-flat for in the 1990's, and that's a damn shame.

The opportunity to become “rich” in the US is what drives our economy. It is what has made the US the most successful country on the planet, bar none. I have no desire to remove that incentive to appease those that have been unable to unwilling to put for the effort to get there themselves.

The reality is that the government spends far more on middle-class entitlements than it does on poverty relief. We are all socialists now.

Move to a European country that will take you. Wash your clothes in the kitchen and your dishes by hand in an apartment where you can barely turn around. Sit at a cold bus or train station every morning waiting on your ride to work. The alternative is to stay in your more comfortable condo that, despite being in a large, crowded urban area, is still likely better than the majority of housing in many of the countries that espouse your ideal form of government. It’s your choice. Bringing us DOWN to their standards is not something most Americans would sign up for, though many don’t fully understand just how much better they have it than elsewhere and are just ignorant enough to vote for it.(Democrats)

Except Europeans live pretty well. They don't have the crime we have, they don't have the slums we have.

Sure it is. Maybe in big blue Democratic cities like Chicago it is more difficult, but that dream most certainly exist in my area of the country. Granted, you can’t have the attitude Of leftists which tends to be that they are owed everything and that nothing is fair. You must actually do and act as an adult, not a spoiled college kid. I have paid into SS my entire working life. When I retire, I will not likely get nearly all of it back and absolutely would have been better off investing it myself. The benefit algorithm is purposely skewed to pay a lesser percentage as it moves up the income scale up to the maximum amount. Maybe you weren’t aware of that, but indeed, those that maxed out their SS are far less likely to receive it all back. If I live 15 years after retirement and a person making and contributing 1/2 of what I contributed lived 15 years after retirement, they would have collected a larger percentage of their overall contributions than would I. What was that about the “rich” not paying their fair share? Yeah, you don’t have a clue because you aren’t there. This is just one of many examples of the working “rich” getting penalized and yet you and others like you want more and more and more.

Aside from the fact that virtually all large bureaucracies are over-staffed, one wonders if the DOGE fukkers are thinking of ways to automate the IRS function as much as possible, possibly by replacing income taxes with VAT's & such.

That won't happen because it would allow the wealthy to shield most of their wealth and income from greedy hands while requiring the non-wealthy to pay more in taxes. That won't be allowed.

One can never forget what Musk did at Twitter, with astounding success. He laid off 80% and nobody noticed.

He sure did, and I believe that is the most feared result of all, that he will be successful and have the government actually running more efficiently, returning value instead of waste. In all seriousness, if he and TRUMP! can pull that off, Republicans will run Washington for a long time.

Now that's what I'd call downsizing....
If we compare the dollars collected after the cuts with the dollars collected before the cuts.
There'll probably very little difference.

We need to find a better way of collecting tax revenue in a fashion where we could eliminate the entire IRS.
