Boston Dynamics presented a new model of the Atlas robot, which it developed jointly with South Korean Hyundai. Now the robot is completely electric, and the hydraulics have been removed. Unlike the previous model of the Atlas robot, which was developed for 11 years and is now not assembled, the new robot has received more powerful drives and has also become more flexible. Now he doesn’t have to walk on two legs, he can fold into different positions. Some users were even frightened by this mobility. The new Atlas robot will be used in production automation; it is reported that the robot is already working at Hyundai factories.

I have a relative who works in a mostly automated factory. The robotic dog has a tendency to scare the hell out of people because it moves so quietly. Its job is to detect leaks in high pressure lines. No idea how it does it just walking around. Some of the production lines are quite long and they have a bunch of little robots they can stick into the machines that crawl through their guts looking for problems. Anyway, it is a brave new world I guess. From raw materials to finished products very few things other than servicing the machines and monitoring quality requires human hands...well unless something has gone wrong. No worries though as it gives them a lot more time to have meetings about scheduling meetings, having training sessions in corporate speak, and the like.
