The new Conservative government in the UK will pass a law making it illegal for public bodies to engage with BDS, UK Special Envoy for post-Holocaust issues Eric Pickles said at the International Institute for Strategic Dialogue’s conference in Jerusalem on Sunday.

"BDS is antisemitic and should be treated as such," Pickles said, explaining that the new law will not allow public bodies to work with those who boycott, divest from or sanction Israel in any way.

Pickles, who is also the chairman of Conservative Friends of Israel, said that Labour's historic defeat in last week's general election in the UK showed that the British people reject antisemitism.

"Antisemitism an attack on the British way of life and British identity. Without our Jewish citizens we would be a lesser nation," he said.

"Without our Jewish citizens, we should be a lesser nation," he stated.

Boris Johnson to pass anti-BDS law, official says

Anti semitism which is a core value of Palestinian society seems to be under attack everywhere.

In stark contrast to the openly anti-Semitic Labour Party.

And this is one, huge problem with Israel existing as a "Jewish State": criticism of its actions is often drowned out by accusations of anti-semitism, while support of its actions is often confused as "Pro-jewish". Israel should cease to exist as a jewish state and become a secular state.

He's not wasting any time making the UK great again. Way to go Boris!

Israel is, of course, both a secular state and a Jewish state. It is a Jewish state only in the sense it is the homeland of the Jews, meaning all Jews can emigrate to Israel, and it is a secular state in the sense that it is a liberal democracy that treats all citizens equally under the law and protects minorities.

Israel is a secular state for persons of the Jewish ethnicity. You don't have to practice Judaism to live there, you don't even have to be Jewish (26% of the population of Israel isn't Jewish).

There are currently 33 armed conflicts around the world and the Israeli / Palestinian is at the bottom of the list in terms of both casualties and property damage. There is no strategic significance in the conflict. So, the motivation for why people who aren't connected with the conflict either geographically or ethnically are so fanatically concerned about the conflict is a bit of a conundrum.

Something has to be motivating the fact that out of all the other conflicts currently raging around the globe, the IP Conflict accounts for ten times more discussion than all other conflicts combined.

There is something driving that much interest and outrage, but I'm pretty sure it's not the local weather or local geography.

No. Judaism is the official religion of Israel. Judaism is provileged. Its leaders call it a jewish state.

So, when someone auggests boycotting Israel due to treatment of Palestinians, they are accused of anti,-semitism.

As you can see in the OP.

Israel has no official state religion although the overwhelming majority of Israelis are Jewish. All Israeli citizens are equal under the law. Arab Israelis have all the same rights and responsibilities under the law except that they are not subject to compulsory military service. Palestinians are citizens of the Palestinian Authority and Israel has no responsibility for their welfare. BDS is widely recognized in the US and Europe as an expression of anti semitism.

These are basic principle of law in Israel, per the nation-state bill:

1 — Basic Principles

A. The land of Israel is the historical homeland of the Jewish people, in which the State of Israel was established.

B. The State of Israel is the national home of the Jewish people, in which it fulfills its natural, cultural, religious, and historical right to self-determination.

C. The right to exercise national self-determination in the State of Israel is unique to the Jewish people.

So surely you understand that someone might regard Israel as Jewish state, and not just a state with "mostly Jews". Surely you understand that many of these people actually live in Israel and run the government.

Better would be an establishment cause, officially declaring it to be a secular government with no preferences allowed based on religion.

The fact remains that Israel has no official state religion and it is a liberal democracy in which every citizen, Jew, Arab, Christian, etc., is equal under the law, that means there are "no preferences allowed based on religion". The Nation State law did not change anything. The question is why are you are so determined to find fault with a liberal democracy that has the same values as the liberal democracies of the western world.

Judaism is both an ethnicity and a religion. Even your friends agree with that. When they seek to annihilate Jews, they don't care about how they pray or how they keep Kosher, they only care if they have Jewish names or 'look' Jewish.

Korea is a Korean State. Japan is a Japanese State, etc. etc.

Since Israel has no state religion, an establishment clause would serve no purpose.

I don't know what America is. Not really an American State. Not anymore. :(

America wasn't started as a state for any particular ethnicity ... Americans have been multi-ethnic from day one.

Although the two terms, nation and state, are often used interchangeably, they have distinct meanings. A state is a legal entity that occupies a certain area of land, but a nation is a group of people who identify as with each other on the basis shared values and who see themselves as a political entity. The Civil War is evidence that while the US has long been a state, it was not always a nation. Today, however, the vast majority of Americans identify as Americans regardless of their origins or ethnicities etc. The same cannot be said of states such as Syria or Iraq.

Some of the original colonies weren't and the US was essentially a white nation until the 1960's.

No. Arab citizens of Israel are not permitted to claim Israeli nationality.
