Retail giant Target is blaming a surge in “organized retail crime” for a $400 million reduction in gross profits.

In a third quarter earnings call, the company cited an inventory shrinkage for a $400 million reduction in gross profit in 2022 compared to last year, Yahoo Finance reported. Target CFO Michael Fiddelke expects the disappearance of merchandise to reach $600 million by the end of the year. He specified theft as a “key driver” of profit loss in retail that has gotten “increasingly worse over the last 12 to 18 months.” Target is taking actions to curb the increase in retail theft felt by the store and its competitors, Fiddelke explained.

The company’s profits in the third quarter plunged 52% as the retailer warned of a sluggish holiday shopping season, CNN reported. Target CEO Brian Cornell believes inflation and economic difficulties played a central role in the company’s lackluster quarterly profits.

Just last week a Walmart in the plaza where I work closed. It was a two week process. First everything was 25% off then 50% off then 75. I heard that the main reason for them closing was losses due to theft. It is definitely a rampant problem in this entire plaza which is also known as the car theft capital of our city! About 10 years ago a woman was even abducted from a car here and taken to Ohio and raped. And about a year ago there was a shootout at the same Walmart that just closed. Oh, by the way....this is a Blue city.

Went into a Home Depot recently and most of the power tools were being put into cages. I guess it is better to put power tools in cages, than inner city savages in cages... At least Home Depot has it right.

I used to work at Home Depot, it galls me to see what they have to do, to keep savages from stealing from them.

I have been told by store managers that their employees took stuff all the time because they work there and deserve it.
